my husband is insisting on putting mustela (sp?) diaper rash cream on our 11 week old DS's penis & scrotum.....I don't think anything should go on there....anyone?? He said he thinks it looks "dry".....but diaper rash cream? |
If it's red an irritated, I use the cream, if not, I usually leave it alone. I think it's supposed to be "dry" looking. Does the Mustela have zinc oxide in it? I only used that when there was a rash, otherwise used the plain A&D in the yellow box.
Men are so funny about their son's penises. |
diaper rash cream is meant to keep moisture out, it is not for dry skin. |
If he is really that concerned, he could try some Aquafor? And for diaper rash, we swear by Butt Paste |
I use diaper rash cream on the butt and maybe on the top above the penis if it gets red from where the diaper was secured. Around the penis, I just use Aquaphor or the Desitin clear which is the same thing. But I wouldn't necessarily worry if some diaper rash cream gets on the penis. I doubt they'd make a product to be used on the tush if it was bad on the penis. |
when my DS had a VERY red penis, ped said it's perfectly fine to put diaper cream with zinc oxide on it. but, if it's not red I don't put it there. I definitely wouldn't use it there if the skin looked dry. I'd try aquaphor or vaseline, like PP suggested. |
