Neighbor's dog poops in their yard

We're new to this area and are not dog people.

Is it normal for people to let their dogs run around in the back yard and poop all over the place (on their property)?

They have a nice big back yard, about 0.25 acres of grass, and it has a short wrought iron fence around it so the dog should not get into our yard.

Does this just seem weird because I didn't grow up with pets?

Yes, it's common. THey should pick it up regularly though, because rats.

What's the issue? It's winter and most people aren't yet playing in their yard, so why not let the dog? We let our dog poop all over our yard and then once a day or so we run around picking it up.

Yes. It is very common. People are lazy though. Some do not clean up the poop at all.

It stinks and is an eyesore during the warm months but they don't care.

Those types of neighbors never walk their dogs to poop either. Their dogs get all their exercise in the backyard with dogsh*t everywhere. Gross.

Allowing a dog to go in the yard is very normal. It's not your yard and not your problem.

I am not a dog person and i can see how this would be confusing for someone who didn't grow up with pets.

It's winter? It's like 70 degrees today.

I thought most people would just walk the dog and pick it up and put it in the trash.

I have never seen the neighbor walk around the yard picking it up. It's a big yard, it wouldn't be easy to find.

That's why I avoid play dates at homes with dogs. You don't know if their yard has any land mines.
