5 year old loves hot dogs ever since eating one at a basball game last year. Is this a bad thing?

Yes the hot dogs at a baseball game are good but is wanting to eat them 3 or 4 times a week a bad thing? Unhealthy? We should have never allowed him to eat one in the first place. Now, hot dogs are all he talks about wanting to eat. Will he eventually grow out of this?

3-4 times/week is too much. once a week, maybe.

Kids love hot dogs. Enjoy it in moderation. We get the applegate farm ones that seem a bit healthier.

My kid gets one hot dog a week after school when we have to run to an activity. It is quick and fast. One hot dog a week is fine.

Moderation is key. We do Pizza night once a week. You could do hot dogs every Friday as a treat. Serve it with fruit and veggies. No problem.

When the season starts every time we watch a game on tv he is probably going to want to eat a hot dog.

We also allow one hot dog dinner per week, Applegate.

Just get Nitrate free turkey dogs. But maybe once a week.

Of course he wants to eat them all the time, they are delicious! My 4yo gets them maybe 4 times a month - some times two days in a row, sometimes 6 weeks without them. We don't ration them per se, they are just a 'sometimes' food like fries or cake or whatever.

Should could buy the vegetarian ones, my kids like Morningstar farms

Moderation.

Preservative-free.

Careful he doesn't choke wolfing it down.

Look, I love hot dogs. But they are pretty darn nutrient-free. They are made from a meat "batter."

I'd treat them as a treat, not a real meal. So maybe once a week. I'd feel better about once every other week. And I'd buy high quality hot dogs. Uncured if possible.

But what about all of those elderly 80+ year old baseball fans who have been eating hot dogs at baseball games since baseball was the #1 sport during their youth?

You mean the same 80 year olds who have been smoking a pack a day since they were 16? Ask them how many of their friends are still around.
