Ouch! |
So many lazy and greedy doctors over-prescribing these addictive drugs. I know it hasn't yet been determined how he got his drug supply. |
No purple, it was black boxer briefs. He mellowed some with age.
Wondering where he got the fentanyl from and how much we will learn from the police investigation. |
The addiction consultant who found Prince unresponsive and made the 911 call has written an excellent editorial piece on CNN.com: http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/03/opinions/man-who-found-prince-kornfeld/index.html |
http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/22/health/prince-pills-fentanyl/index.html
Pills seized inside Prince's Paisley Park compound by investigators were labeled as hydrocodone but actually contained fentanyl -- the drug that killed the singer -- according to a source with knowledge of the investigation who revealed the information to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The revelation gives more insight into what may have caused Prince's overdose. There are two likely possibilities: Either a pharmaceutical manufacturer mislabeled the pills, or the pills were illegally manufactured and obtained illegally. However, according to the Star Tribune, investigators are working under the theory that the pop star did not know the pills contained fentanyl. Prince died on April 21 from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, according to the Medical Examiner. |
Wow. If the pills were mislabeled, Prince may have had no idea what he was taking. He was not a big person and that fentanyl stuff sounds like extremely powerful and dangerous medication. |
This makes me so sad!! I posted in this thread a lot when he did because I was a huge fan and it was seriously upsetting. This almost makes it worse. I did have a dream the other night and Prince showed up in it and I had to tell him he had died. He was not happy! I explained how we turned a bunch of big buildings and important monuments purple and he seemed to like that. |
It makes me mad that he may have been killed by an insanely stupid and deadly mistake. But it's also a relief to know that this was entirely unintentional on his part. He may have taken what he thought was a therapeutic dose of prescribed medication - as ordered by the doctor. |
So the flu he had the weeks before his death had nothing to do with it? This is awful - For a careless mistake to cause anyone's death, let alone Prince. My kids have become big fans since his death. My 2 year old daughter requests Purple Rain in the car and she's really getting good with the lyrics. |
I am seriously confused about the controversy.
People illegally buy and use drugs all of the time. Prince was a known prescription addict. Why the question about his knowingly taking mislabeled meds? |
I was actually pretty shocked to hear that Prince was a prescription addict. That was news to me but granted I have never been in his inner circle so why would I know that? At any rate, whether he had a pain pill habit or not it does matter whether or not he knew that the his bottle of medication was mislabeled. Maybe he knew that but made the choice to take them anyway. Maybe he had know idea. I hope they can get to the bottom of it regardless. What a tragic waste. |
He did not have the flu. Prince was an opioid addict. The pills in the hydrocodone (Vicodin) bottle weren't hydrocodone, they were another narcotic drug with Fentanyl. He most likely was storing them in the Vicodin bottle because a) he obtained them illegally/off the street, or b) to not draw attention to the fact that he was popping Fentanyl (known as a heavy-duty narcotic by those familiar with these kinds of drugs), or c) because he consolidated the many containers of many drugs he must have had on hand at any given time, or some other reason. I highly doubt Prince did not know he was taking Fentanyl. He took Vicodin and/or Perocet for years and popping a Fentanyl does not feel the same as popping a Vic or Perc. He would know the difference. And once he had Fentanyl (or Oxycontin, or Dilaudid, or some other similar narcotic), well, to hell with Vicodin. Vics and Percs are like training wheels once you get hooked on the stronger opioids. |
I've had it twice, once for surgery and it was in my epidural - that stuff is lovely. Lovely. I don't do illicit drugs, period, but I can only imagine how seductive fentanyl is when you have an addiction and other crap in your life. |
I stopped reading the articles after there seemed to be no news and then coincidentally looked for an update and found more news. I don't think he had any prescriptions in the year leading up to his death. So, I figure he got them illegally and put them in Vitamin C and Aleve bottles so he could pop them without anyone suspecting anything. It's a shame if he was trying to self medicate for either physical or emotional pain and did or didn't know he was taking fentanyl. I just would assume that since illegal drugs are not controlled substances, you are pretty much playing Russian roulette with your health at that point because who knows what you are really taking. I wonder what he paid for those drugs and who he got them from. |
