Heavy-up cost?

Anonymous
My home is about 1600 square feet and still has a fuse box. I need to do a heavy up and replace the electric panel. Has anyone had this done lately? If so, how much did you pay and would you recommend your electrician? Thanks.

I just had a heavy up done to my 1200 sf home. It cost me $2100. It's not a cheap. It only took one day to do but I'm still trying to get Pepco out several months later to upgrade the meter and attach the higher amp electric line.

$1800 for a house the same size. We received three quotes ranging from $1800 - 2700. The larger companies were significantly more expensive. We went with a younger electrician with great reviews but without the overhead of a larger outfit.

We paid about 2000 and used wilcox electric. They are DC based and the owner is hands on, which is great.

This was done on my house before I closed. The old fuse box was in disrepair and was only 70amps (it was original to the house built in the 40s). To go up to 200amps I think it was around $2,000.

To the PP who is having trouble with Pepco, make sure the building department has inspected the work. If they have already, they need to re-send the paperwork to Pepco. If the building department has not inspected it, they need to before the paperwork can be sent to Pepco. That happened to me, which is why I know.

thank you - I'm the pp. Part of the problem was that this heavy up was for a rental we own and our electrician put the incorrect address on the permit. Got all that sorted out, inspected by the county, but still have been calling Pepco weekly to find out if it is on the schedule and still have not been able to get confirmation as to when they will be out.

Yi Electrical, Yi Chang - he's amazing. I worried as all his yelp reviews were wonderful and who has that many wonderful ones. We did a heavy up when we moved in 10 years ago with another company and they did a terrible job. He is doing our basement remodel and did a massive panel clean up that looks so much better. He did a lot of rewiring others would not do. Around $2000 is about normal.

He is easier to reach by text or email.

GOT Electric did ours in MoCo for about $2000 a year and a half ago. House is 3000 ft2 and had no free fuses/whatever they're called before the heavy-up.
