Cracked heels

Is it dryness or a fungus? Is there anything that really works? I get a pedicure and two days later my heels look bad again. Not hideous, but cracked.

Dryness for me. Aquaphor at night, under socks, works wonders. And wearing open shoes or sandals makes it worse.

Most ppl have cracked heals if not taken care of and a pedicure does nothing for it.
I agree with the pp - Aquaphor or some really thick cream for feet and socks ad within days you will see a difference.
Flip Flops definitely destroys my heels.

I know this sounds strange, but this is the only thing that worked on my deeply cracked heels - udder balm. It was originally used to prevent cracking on bovine udders but is great on human heels as well. You can order it online.

Hi!

Curious as to why the flip flops make the cracks worse. Thanks!

As far as I know, the open air lets the heels dry out faster. If I wear open shoes more than 3 days in a row, I have trouble.

Very interesting. I have this dry heel condition too. I suspected for a while that the open air had something to do with it, but wasn't sure. Has anyone tried any of the expensive glycolic acid lotion products?

How do you manage to keep your feet looking soft and feeling cool during horribly, hot days?

Well, I can wear flip flops during the day as long as I put Aquaphor on the heels at night and cover with socks. I just hate hate hate wearing socks to bed though. Or I can wear closed flats and not have to do the Aquaphor at night (except maybe once a week). So I alternate open shoes with ballet flats. And wear athletic shoes with socks when I’m doing yard work. This keeps my feet looking and feeling pretty good.

OP here. Bag Balm is a great idea. Thanks!

Raw shea butter on your heels, and take a fish oil supplement.

I've always had really bad dry skin on my feet and cracked heels. My feet sweat a lot, which apparently makes it worse.

But I tried using kerasal when I got a coupon in the Sunday paper.. and it actually helps a lot. Gets rid of the cracks and makes my heels feel supple.

I use a pumice-like thing to scratch off flakes too, but the real solution is that Kerasal stuff.

I've got a crack on my big toe right now and it hurts! The aquaphor is definitely helping.

This thing is the best http://skincarerx.com/Microplane-Foot-File-Orb.html
I use it and the use aveda foot cream, or aquaphor, or vaseline.

Go see a podiatrist. He can prescribe a lotion for it that really works.

I second Kerasal. It actually the only thing that completely heals and softens mine. It is expensive, but you only need a tiny amount.
