Sea World Orca Dies

Anonymous
This animal suffered for months before dying of a resistant fungal infection, likely the result of living in captivity.

Regardless of if you've ever been to SeaWorld, would you go from here on out, knowing what we know now? It's time for them to put an end to their large animal shows.

I can't go anymore. I saw the Blackfish documentary. I can't forget about how they captured and took away the baby orcas.

I can't bring myself to watch the Blackfish documentary, because I know it's going to be awful. But I'm done with Sea World. I can't believe that a corporation is allowed to just go out there and capture whales and profit off of them. And I made the mistake of watching one scene online about how they train the whales to surface for insemination type activities and I was utterly wigged out.

What do you propose SeaWorld does with its large animals?

Fixed that for you. I wish I could fix your gullibility, but that's something you'll have to do on your own.

Aren't there sanctuaries where they could go live out the rest of their lives in peace and not be made to perform inane tricks for profit?

How is it propaganda? It's not like orcas jumped into sea world's tanks of their own volition and refused to leave captivity.

They haven't taken animals from the wild in 30 years. They don't separate calves from their mothers. And those screams you heard in that "capture" scene weren't even orca calls.

Where are these sanctuaries?

Only 18 years old. In the wild Orcas can live to 45 years and beyond.

Very sad.

So you think animals forced to perform in captivity is ok with you? I guess you also take your kid to the circus. Awful

For those of you that won't go to Sea World because of the animals in captivity, do you also not go to see the circus with your children? How about the National Zoo?
I'm not trying to be snarky, just legitimately want to know.

Well first off, the film has a lot of misleading inaccuracies, if not outright lies. And second, the vast majority of, if not all the whales at Sea World were born in captivity. They have never lived a day in the wild.

1) OP, no, like you, I can't stand it. Will never go to Sea World now that I know what I know.

2) PP, we do not go to circuses except those with domesticated animals, such as the Big Apple Circus, which only has dogs and horses. And they are big on humane treatment of all the animals under their care. Zoos? We go to zoos but we research them ahead of time. We go to National Zoo but do NOT go to local rinky-dink ones like Reston Zoo (TERRIBLE history there) or other ones like this.

Fine, easy solution: let the moms live out their lives in sanctuary and release the calves once they are old enough. The cycle ends here.
