I just wanted to post a message urging everyone to remain careful, even when in Georgetown.
Last week, I took my one-year-old to Blue Igloo Playgroup at the corner of 26th and P. I parked my car outside of 2505 P Street around 10:30 a.m. I STUPIDLY, left my bag in my car (b/c quite frankly, I was tired, sick, and bringing my handbag wasn't part of my normal routine). I returned to my car at around 11:50 a.m. only to find my window smashed in and my handbag gone. One of my first feelings was, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER b/c I had heard about the incident involving the woman, her child, and the teenagers who had broken her sunroof just a couple of weeks before. What was surprising to me was that there were LOTS of people around. There has actually been a lot of street construction at the corner of P and 26th for at least a couple of weeks. In addition, the owner of the house at 2505 P Street eventually came out, and it turns out that she had a contractor doing work inside her house, with workers coming and going. After mulling over it all a bit, I did a little research RE the earlier incident, and I was quite surprised to learn that there was a thread on this board in which some people suggested that the incident never occurred b/c they found it quite unbelievable that it could occur w/all the people coming and going in Georgetown. Well, I wanted to pass on the message that this sort of stuff DOES occur in Georgetown. In fact, to the non-believers, I suggest you do some research about a gang of teenagers that stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise--in what was described as a "flash mob"--last year from the True Religion store on M Street. Be careful! Happy holidays... |
Why wasn't the initial incident not believed? Why would the victim lie about it? Crime happens. |
But were you IN the car at the time? Clear difference in facts here, my dear.
Anyone who lives in DC should KNOW not to leave visible valuables in the car. |
Not entirely sure why it wasn't believed. I read some of the comment, but not all of them of the many pages of comments. |
Well, there were store clerks IN the True Religion store... And, "my dear", not clear to me that that was the critical fact for the non-believers. |
The Georgetown Attack?
I will only believe it when it gets its own theme music on CNN. |
Well I wasn't there. No one I know was there. And there's no video.
I still think y'all are making this all up. Question's why? |
Not comparable incidents at all except both were in Georgetown and involved vehicles - smash and grabs from cars happen in DC all the time even in busy areas - the telling of the previous incident had a lot of unusual elements to it that raised suspicions. |
You know, I sort of wondered whether sharing this would cause a "feeding frenzy" for many of you. I hardly ever visit this board. And it's in part b/c you are a funny funny group...
Signing off... |
Thanks for sharing, let me guess , black youths? |
Did you file a police report? |
As I recall, the number of people on that thread who said, "The reason I don't believe that the Georgetown Attack happened is that there has never been, nor will there ever be, an incident in Georgetown where somebody smashed a car window and stole a purse." was: zero. |
She was not there - she did not see who smashed the window. |
Sorry, but i am not inclined to believe anything on DCUM unless it has some independent corroboration. Link to a police blotter or a newspaper article. |
This is your average break and enter crime of opportunity. The other one was some bizarro ninja style attack except all the attackers were James Bond villains who were easily thwarted by a mom in a SUV. |
