This is very disturbing. A group of 10 young men, wearing hoodies and ski masks according to the police alert, tried to rob someone at knifepoint. This is a normally safe area, but violent crime seems to be rising all along Wisconsin Ave. Now it's reaching deeper into residential areas. The large group of muggers is something very new and unsettling. It's as if they believed that they could act with impunity. I live in AU Park and seldom see police patrols, so perhaps they are right. Between the recent Wilson gun incident, the flash mob stuff in Georgetown and what seems to be an increasing occurrence of muggings, it feels like things are definitely slipping in Upper NW. I hope that Bowser and the MPD get on top of this. |

| There has always been random crime in this neighborhood. I lived there and there was a rape near Rodman's and a family robbed at gunpoint outside their house. This doesn't seem like a new problem or one to be overly concerned about. |

| Since the police have no more to go on than a group of teenaged (not sure how they knew their ages if they couldn't see their faces) youth and don't even know if male or female, I can't imagine they'll be successful in locating them. |

BLM=Black Lives Matter has nothing to do with 8-10 people threatening robbery with at least 1 knife. Get real. Our people and police not supposed to do or say anything because it isn't PC since a suspect or criminal might be black? Do you think victims might never be black? |

NP. Nice try. Profiling happens for a reason and, while there may be some bigotry involved, it's also based on frequency of occurrences - i.e. fact. |

A robbery spike in Capitol Hill is one thing. But chief Lanier had better start doing her job now that Upper NW is being affected! |

Ten youths robbing one - it just seems strange, more like something targeted against this particular victim.
That being said, I live the next street over and around Christmas street crimes seem to increase. A few years back there were armed (gun) robberies in early/mid december. Be aware of your surroundings. When you're getting in and out of your car or your house, don't be distracted. I know it seems like painfully obvious advice, but think about your routine - when I'm not conscious of the process, I'll sit in my car, dig through my bag for my house keys, listen to the end of a song, etc. |
