Do I need to see the doctor again or should I take something OTC? It's been a month and not getting better, don't know what to do. The cough is not too bad but now also having shortness of breath.

See the doctor. |
go to the doctor. it could be your heart. |
There is a lot of pneumonia going around right now. See your doctor just to be careful. However, there is also a cold going around with a long lingering dry cough.
If you are otherwise healthy, you should see your doctor if the symptoms are not starting to get better and go away after 10-14 days. |
Not the OP, but what does this mean? |
NP. Congestive heart failure results in fluid buildup in the lungs, which can cause a chronic cough. No reason to jump to that absent other symptoms, though--much more likely to be something environmental, or post-nasal drip. |
Did you have a cold/viral infection first or has it only been the dry cough all along? |
Could be allergies.
See the doctor but you could also try nasacort or allegra/clartin and see if that helps. |
Are you on any blood pressure medication? ACE inhibitors are famous for causing this type of cough |
Our entire family had this cough recently. It was only a dry cough but it lasted a few weeks.
I was diagnosed with asthma a few years ago after I had a cough that wouldn't go away. It was a shock but man did I feel better once I was on the inhalers! If this goes on much longer, I'd see a doc. |
Are you wheezy at all?
I sometimes end up with asthma after a viral cold/cough. An inhaler does wonders! |
could also be reflux. |
I would definitely suggest going to a doctor. I hate to be one of those people, but I had a dry cough for about four months and when I finally went to see a doctor, he referred me for a chest x-ray and I had an infection that I never even knew about (I was shocked - I only had a cough and no other symptoms). Viral coughs can take a long time to resolve, but I think a month is getting to the point that its worth checking out. Infections that sit around can cause damage to the lungs so its better to see a doctor then not to. |
