Falls Church City , sex, lies and tapes

Anonymous
We have just bought a house Falls Church City, for the schools.
And now I found out about the entanglement pedophile / pedophile's wife taped conversation / murder plot / politics / school board and council elections / superintendent overlooking kids safety / special needs committee litigation / etc etc etc.
It looks like The Little City is too little and corrupt.

Any insider's opinion? How is this community going to heal?

It will be fine. There will be a turnover of politicians soon especially with huge demographic shift as boomers retire and move to Fl and those hordes of new apartments full up. Little concerned about school capacity b/c of weirdness of using land in FFX and having to negotiate with them for more space for school (Daniel was a mess) but I guess the worst case scenario is some tax increases or special assessment to raise funds to buy FFX or even city private land; though I guess maybe eminent domain could be used which could be messy.

The Gardner stuff is hard to swallow period but a group of politicians strategically brought it out this week in order to discredit one incumbent, the editor of the local paper, and mess with a bunch of other people who aren't running. Now they're trying to discredit rank newcomer candidates by association. Apparently they have more up their sleeve this weekend (can't wait!). This is modus operandi for Sam mabry's crew and I'd hope even their more rational supporters can see through the tactics. As someone else on dcum posted recently, if you hate everything the city is doing presently, they are who you vote for, but beware of folks who operate lacking civility and professional ethics.

Best of all they will shut up soon.

Add to that the ambiance of the city, which is old and dingy.

Dunno. There's something pretty sick about valuing "civility" over the kids who were molested by a pedophile, protected by the mayor (his wife). At the time these folks wrote letters in support of Gardner, the DNA evidence was already out. I'm a huge Democratic partisan and got involved in FC politics a little when the Howard Dean office was in FC City, and I used to think Nick Benton of the FCNP was great. But I really think now that all these people need to be swept out of office, including on the Democratic committee. There's something really sick going on, and I'm glad it's come to light now, or at least enough to light before election day.

Be very careful when you read or hear what Sam Mabry and crew are spinning. Their claims about the newcomers are all false. People are afraid to speak up and comment because they don't want to be attacked next. Do some digging into who Sam Mabry really is. Look at who is supporting him and his FACTS candidates Kaye and Berry. Look at his buddy Ira Kaylin's donations to John Foust right before the Mt Daniel project ran into problems. The other candidates are staying silent on so many things because they don't want to run dirty campaigns, but do a small amount of digging and you will find more dirt than you could imagine.

FCC is a wonderful place to live and raise kids. The are some very very good, kind, generous people running for office who are being smeared in the blogs with blatant untruths. They are taking the high road and not fighting back. Point is, don't believe everything you read in any of the news outlets--talk to your neighbors, friends, and the candidates themselves then make a decision.

The timing of the release of the letters has nothing to do with timing of the election. There was a gag order until Garnder plead guilty. Once he did they were able to complete the FOIA process to release them. Some of the victims parents have wanted them released for a long time.

You don't think that their release on a website owned and controlled by candidates Sam Mabry and Mark Kaye had anything to do with it? Why not wait a week until after the election? Why try to link candidates who didn't write letters or even live here at the time it all happened if not for the election? I have huge amounts of empathy for the parents of those brave girls, and they deserve all of the support and love they are receiving. The parents had every right to release the information, but surely you can see that these were released on the Post for purely political reasons?!

I live in FCC and find it to be a really friendly, welcoming and comfortable place to raise a family. We love it here. In contrast to larger places we've lived, it's easier to get to know people and easy to get immediate support from the city government when it's needed. Our kids are too young for school, but I've heard mostly positive things from neighbors.

The ugliness in the current election is really unfortunate and in my experience out of character for the city. A lot has been instigated by the Falls Church FACTS folks, whose platform largely seems to be to attack incumbents (sometimes personally, not on policy) and argue against development, sidewalks, bike lanes, and other changes.

Assuming this crowd doesn't win the election, my best guess is that things will be back to normal fairly quickly around here.

13:27, the timing is appropriate. There are candidates who wrote disgusting letters of support for a CONVICTED child molester. It is relevant and timely. People should know of this act. And not purely political -- pp explained about the gag order.

Some of the letters talked about welcoming this criminal back to the City. It is unbelievable. I don't get the posters who accuse the father who release it in stead of focusing on the actions of those leaders. It is really a sick, insular community.

I don't think that is a good thing considering these revelations. Child molester favored over victimized girls.

Falls Church is not a sick or insular community .. It's one of the most inclusive and welcoming places I've ever lived! At least until this election which has turned it increasingly ugly. There is no doubt in my mind who is behind the ugliness- a pedophile, a monster in our midst, who fooled a lot of people and damaged lives and our community. The people who wrote letters of support to the judge back in 2012, were wrong to do so, if you ask me, but they have apologized, acknowledged their mistake and asked forgiveness from the parents and the community. But the candidates using this tragedy as a political tool dont want to let it go, of course. They don't care who they hurt in their grasp for political power - they are compounding the tragedy and spreading untruths, misinformation and negativity. The real enemy is the pedophile. And those who would profit by exploiting the victims are the lowest of the low... and luckily, they do not represent the majority of Fallla Church.

Only a few have acknowledged or apologized, out of 70! Only one, that I know of, actually sounded sincere. Some very public personas have stubbornly refused to admit they were wrong to write those letters.

It's hard for me to reconcile what I read in the Mabry/Kaye blog. The nastiness of the authors. The supporting commentators who hate apartment dwellers, want Toni Jones out, label women who are running for office as Stepford Wives and Mommy Candidates (but only the ones they disagree with). Hard to reconcile that with basically every other single person I know in real life here. Obviously a divide between parents of school kids and others. And Democrat versus Republican. But I know tons and tons of people (through neighborhood get togethers, schools, sports, more) - and everyone is so awesome, friendly, nice, interesting. So don't be scared .

Re: the letters. Even though I'm certain the timing was politically motivated (and trying to tie the letter writers to every candidate they disagree with by virtue of - I'm not sure what - contaminated fairy dust - is pathetic ) - I think it is good it came to light. Those girls should be supported, period. And if those in power are still supporting Gardner, then we have an issue for sure.

Even though I'm voting for Duncan (still), Hardi, tarter. And Castillo, Gill, and Reitinger - I'm not too concerned if some of the other slate gets elected. Some balance would not be a bad thing. But I worry what happens if they get a majority over time, fire Toni Jones, don't give full funding to the schools, delay any big development , etc. I think it would be a terrible direction for the city. But that's why we have elections!!
