Wedding attire suggestions for "dressy casual"

Anonymous
Invited to a wedding in NM and the invitation says "Dressy casual attire." Seriously? What does that mean? I think jeans, cute top and heels but hopefully other fashionistas can help a girl out b/c the wedding is in 9 days and I have no clue what to wear. The wedding is at the brides parents house in the evening, in case that helps with suggestions. Thank you!

No jeans!! Go with a cute dress.

If you do cute top and heels, make it with nice black pants instead of jeans. But a dress is a better choice.

don't do jeans!

I just went to 2 weddings over the summer ( one in NM too) both had mentioned "dressy casual " as the dress code as well, and everyone showed up looking fancy! I would suggest a cocktail dress that you can dress up or down with jewelry. but definitely no jeans!

I think it's outside.

That is the stupidest clothing direction. I'd go with a wrap dress, or dressy pants and a top, not jeans.

Cute dress in a non-metallic or non-sparkly fabric.

If you google "dressy casual" and wedding, apparently dressy casual is just another way to say "semiformal."

In other words, wear whatever you usually wear to a wedding. If you like a little more eclectic clothes, then look at Anthropologie - they have some cute fall maxi/midi dresses.

I was invited to a so-called "casual" wedding a couple of years ago and people were still wearing fancy dresses. I was wearing a cotton sundress and felt so underdressed.

My wedding was actually casual and I'm glad people dressed in an actual casual manner for it. WHY with the confusing dress codes??

Google "Dressy Casual Wedding". Lots of options come up OP.

I don't trust people's ability to follow a dresscode, so I would probably wear a solid color dress like I would to any other wedding. Maybe with flats instead of heels.

If you have more faith in people to actually show up in dressy casual, I think these outfits fit the bill:

I think something like a cotton shift dress. Similar to the type of dress you'd wear to a bridal shower.

"Formal" is a dress code. "Semi-formal" is a dress code. "White tie" is a dress code. "Dressy casual" is world salad.
