I watched the pilot and fell asleep. I have a friend who raved about this new series.
What say you, Trusted DCUM Friends? You guys have never steered me wrong... I don't mind violence - love Luther, Peaky Blinders, Happy Valley |
| I enjoyed the one episode, but didn't watch more because of the subtitles. That time of night my contacts are either out or need to come out so subtitles are difficult to read. |
| the pilot was a bit boring -- bit too historical/documentary, but it set the stage -- but all the subsequent shows had me hooked. |
| LOVED it. Couldn't stop watching. |
+100. One of the best Netflix originals. |
| Get to episode 2. |
| Fantastic. My husband, who hates subtitles (he's not a native English speaker so he finds them a lot of work) loves it too. |
I found the whole subtitle thing brave, and amazing. Much more believable to hear the Colombian folks in native Spanish. |
| LOVED IT!!!! It got better with every episode. I cannot wait for season II. Did not think I was going to like it, just sorta of gave it a shot but it ended being awesome. |
| Currently watching and love it. |
| I love it. The subtitles can be a little tiring but it's great for practicing Spanish (I speak decently but it's hard for me to understand TV). I got into it very quickly |
| The melodic Spanish put me to sleep every single episode. That said, I loved the 20% I actually saw |

I was totally sold by the first episode. I had resisted watching it because I'm so tired of lurid, violent (but well done) shows like Game of Thrones and I thought this would be another example of one. But I was drawn by reports of lots of Spanish and subtitles, since I'm trying to improve my Spanish.
And the first episode was so different from what I was expecting. Pablo Escobar's truck full of contraband appliances has been stopped by police officers. He gets out and instead of starting a bloody gunfight starts talking to the officers about how he wants to give them presents for members of their family and he describes all the members of their family. You watch the shift in expression on the officers' faces as they realize that Escobar knows who they and their families are and can easily kill them all. They end up letting him go through. To me the show was like Miami Vice meets The Wire -- as if David Simon, the creator of The Wire, had decided to do a show based on Miami Vice but focusing on the Colombian end of things. Not everyone is going to like this but if you like The Wire - which can be a difficult show to get into, granted - you might like this. |
| It's SO good! First episode a little slow but soon you will be hooked |
