I have a 12-year-old DD who may be in the early stages of an eating disorder, and possibly also depression. This is all new to us; neither spouse nor I have ever visited a therapist. We have BCBS FEP insurance. Can anyone recommend some who could help us?
Sorry, this is OP and I should have said we are in Silver Spring and someone close by would be idea. Thank you.
Ask your pediatrician school counselor, and try psychology.com

Try one of the clinicians at Alvord Baker in White Oak.
DS and one of my friend's DD saw Betsy Carmichael (for other issues) and she was very helpful. I have also heard good things about some of the other clinicians there. GL! |
The Ross Center
OP here-- thanks so much for these suggestions-- keep them coming!
Dr. Amy Livingood. EW Highway near BCC.

Renfrew Center in Bethesda
Robyn Miller, Ph.D., also in Bethesda |

I would ask on Special Needs board.
OP, doubt any of these people take your insurance. Try psychology today.

+2 for Amy Livingood
Also, you can search by your insurance on zocdoc.com and for a therapist there- some have reviews

Dr. Georgia DeGangi in Kensington is excellent with adolescent and pre-adolescent girls.
This is OP. Thanks for the recommendations so far. We are going to get the pediatrician's recommendation but he can't meet with us until Nov 4 (which is really annoying, but that's another story). In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to see a LCSW/therapist or a PhD/psychologist. Can anyone with experience in eating disorders speak to which kind of therapist makes more sense? Does it matter?
