Politics aside, do you even LIKE Chic Fil A?

Yes - their chicken biscuit is fantastic.

The whole story brings up challenging questions about corporations, profits and our interconnected, globalized economy. For instance, I buy my electricity from PEPCO and they turn around and give much of it to generating companies, which means COAL generating companies. I'm sure that a lot of my money ends up with American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which cranks out awful conservative legislation to be pushed by their "friends" in state legislatures.

How much of my electric bill ends up with ALEC? How many anti-Obama TV ads am I paying for? Who knows. The situation with Chick-Fil-A is just a visible ripple in an invisible ocean of corporate money washing over our government.

And that is a bad thing???? j/k - you make an excellent point. Of course, an equal argument can be made for the ocean of union money washing over our government. Money that was generated from the mandatory dues payments from their members and spent by the unions regardless of their members' political beliefs or desires.

By the way, COAL generation is what keeps the majority of this country (and my neigbors VOLT) powered and running.

Maybe, but change has to start somewhere.

BTW if you want, you can elect to buy energy from a company that does not use coal. PEPCO offers this and then they buy energy from green(er) generators based on the number of households participating. In theory, if every household elected to do it PEPCO would run coal-free.

So if this is important to you, make a change.

We mostly do organic, homegrown, homemade, etc. etc. However, I am so impressed with the CEOs statements, beliefs, and willingness to stand up for what he believes, I'm thinking of taking my kids there for dinner today.

Go to Elevation Burger instead. It's organic and their fries are fried in olive oil plus their shakes are to die for.

I was just at EB tonight. DO you know their shakes have 770 calories?!?!?!? They ARE good though. I love the fries, too.

I love it! Their chicken nuggets are actually chicken. The staff is always friendly (and I am gay), the milkshakes are awesome, the dipping sauces for the nuggets are really good, delicious chicken sandwhich, and refreshing lemonaide. And they will bring the food out to you, give you handwipes, and a plastic placemat for the table. And in the South they have playrooms for the kids. It is a bummer that they are all closed on Sundays, but I respect that.

We had it occasionally when I was growing up (in NJ - not just the South!) and I do prefer the food over other fast food joints on road trips. So I generally do like the food. But we've been trying to eat healthier plus find better sourced meats - pasture raised, etc. And the not-open-on-Sundays thing always annoyed me. So now this latest nonsense just takes it off the list. A good thing overall for our family.

I am appalled by the political choices of the CEO but this whole story will be a great textbook case for MBA students.

Chick-Fil-A caused corporate advisors everywhere to freak out by openly taking a loud position on a controversial political issue. Gaaahhh, everyone knows not to say these things out loud. Well, through disciplined messaging, social media and tapping a deep pool of satisfied customers, Chick-Fil-A is probably having the best week for sales in their history. And mayors across the country are striking back at Chick-Fil-A and looking like anti free speech stooges.

So many other companies stumble when faced with a situation like this. Chick-Fil-A knocked it out of the park. I still don't like what the CEO does with his money.

Oh, I know all about coal. It's just amazing that in just one decade it's become entirely possible that we can meet all of our electricity needs in the U.S. without any coal. No electricity source is worse than coal to get out of the ground (mountain top mining, etc) and burn (sulfur dioxide, NOx, particulates and, oh yeah, carbon dioxide) than coal.

It was only for one month but perhaps a peak at the future: http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=6990
"Recently published electric power data show that, for the first time since EIA began collecting the data, generation from natural gas-fired plants is virtually equal to generation from coal-fired plants, with each fuel providing 32% of total generation"

Looking at you, Vince!

I like the chicken sandwiches and the coleslaw but haven't been there in a couple years. Our restaurant (I'm in Denver) is super clean and well maintained and the employees are definitely more friendly and helpful than a normal ff place.

Try their chicken noodle soup, so yummy and don't forget about the fresh brewed iced tea. Love their healthy options (fresh fruit salad, grilled chicken nuggets) and also their not so healthy waffle fries. I don't agree with the backlash towards the CEO, but I don't like what he does with his money either, but it's his business. What do the CEOs of McDonalds, Wendys and Burger King support? Maybe we should find out. I bet there's something that someone wouldn't agree with and there would also be a boycott/support XYZ fast food chain day too!

I like the fact that they have Diet Dr. Pepper.

Don't like the fact that they give money to the Family Resource Council, which funds anti-gay lobbies to Congress.

I don't really ever go to Chik fil a since there isn't one near me.

I do love it when I go to the South though. They have great play areas, and the food isn't terrible.

Wouldn't know. Never been to one. I have actually only seen one ever. Must be based in the South.

There are over 100 in VA and MD alone.

One every 551 square miles.

There are only 14 Chik-Fil-A "restaurants" in the six states (and D.C.) where gay marriage is legal.

^^^hmm...it looks like my info was wrong. Saw a Utah paper this morning that quoted the stat above. The Chik-Fil-A website indicated otherwise.
