I agree. It’s essentially an addiction. Instead of collecting purses they collect babies. |
There is a family on YouTube that comes up on my algorithm for some reason and is pretty fascinating to watch. She has a new baby every other year (at this point 8 or 9 kids?), home schools, makes bread from sourdough batch, everything that you would typically think of when we imagine ‘homestead’.
The most interesting part is that she wasn’t raised like that and comes from a ‘conventional’ family with 2 others siblings, went to school all the way to college, not particularly religious upbringing etc. It’s fascinating to think of the mindset change that happened to start her adult life. |
I mean, if you’re going to have an addiction, babies are a happy one! 🤣 But seriously, the amount of self-sacrifice it takes to sustain a pregnancy, not to say anything of actually raising the child (which they are not ignorant of), makes me suspicious of the claim that mothers of huge families are choosing to have children because of an undefined mental illness. |
Have you seen the family with maybe 8 kids and they all live in a camper van? Talk about crazy. |
My friend has three and has to go to the grocery store every other day to feed them. |
I think it's interesting as a mom of 2. Think about it, the cooking, cleaning and how they all would just play with each other.....seems fascinating. |
I know multiple big families. They are not happier. They have different problems- special needs kids, special kid’s needs being ignored because no one has time or energy for this, older siblings stuck babysitting younger ones, sibling rivalry for resources and time with parents, jealousy and constant lack of money that transcends all aspects of life. |
The answer is to LOG OFF. |
You’re a bitter loser. PP sounds great. |
Or, just buy more during the trip you go. |
The horror of feeding your family fresh food |
There is something wrong in nearly all those huge instagram families. Whether it's as bad as abuse or neglect or extremist religious beliefs or lack of access to healthcare/education because your parents believe in not going to the Dr. (or can't afford it w/ so many kids), are antivax, homeschooling or unschooling or just garden variety big family chaos and not getting enough attention and not having enough money. |
I am so curious about them. I can handle one on good days. I want to know what I’m missing that I can’t handle more than one. I need all the tips and tricks! |
The horror is dragging them all out. |
You'll find large families are much more efficient. I do a large Costco run every 3-4 weeks, then produce is either Harris Teeter pick up or one spouse stops sans kids on the way home from work. It's not rocket science. There are a lot of hard things about having kids. This is not one of them. |
