Why is crime so high by Delaware beaches?

Love our place, great community and neighborhood, use it year round as a weekend getaway, so many priceless family memories at the beach, and love the crazy appreciation we have seen.

If you are actually so worried about crime at the beaches by reading some stats instead of talking to actual property owners, then don’t buy at the beaches. No worries. Plenty of other people will and demand is definitely there.

So since you don't see it all the statistics are incorrect?

No, OP doesn’t understand the context. Most of the crime is not happening within the beach town limits. It’s the poor surrounding areas.

It’s pretty obvious you don’t own a beach house and have real experiences. Also we have an HOA and active board and they notify everyone any incidents so it’s not just our place, the whole neighborhood is pretty safe.

Perhaps it's the demographics there?

True plus even now here when you call the cops they don't really want to take reports.

This exactly. Why should cops bother making arrests when they know most criminals will get zero consequences when Libs are in power.

All of you who say you have beach houses there are you talking about condos, trailers or actual single families? I really wonder...

That's ridiculous. Some websites state that that's some of the highest crime rates in the country! They do not specify whether most of time crime happens seasonal when people flock there all summer but maybe thats it? What else explains this high of crime so such a low number of population? It's baffling.

What exactly are you looking at and where? Do you have a government website you can cite? I have been going to Rehoboth Beach for 50 years and have never had any concern. I've always preferred to spend time their during the offseason and never had any worries. Of course, 25+ years ago there was a solid 7 months of off season and Route 1 was utterly deserted. It was wonderful!!!! Now the offseason consist of cold snap days during January and February... and that's about it. Rt 1 is three lanes of traffic no matter what month of the year. Given that the actual population of Rehoboth Beach is tiny but swells by tens of thousands more days than not, maybe there is a weird slant to the data.

Another same. House in South Bethany on the canal. I have been going there for many many years and the only "crime" that occurs is speeding. That is literally all the cops have to do.

+3 SFH in very safe Downtown Rehoboth, along with lots of other neighbors from the DMV. Not sure why that poster thinks that DCUM is filled with trailer dwellers.

Well I heard that it's gossip central there because there is nothing to do and people go there to "retire" but end up so bored they get any job they can after a month or two which is often in retail. Sounds totally miserable.

So many people here trying to defend their property values and totally ignoring the statistics (which they have shunned).

Yep. Statistics are clearly out of control.
