This is so dumb. We used to call this “education.”

The whole point of the term STEM is to describe math-based majors that are distinct from the humanities majors. Other languages like in German, Chinese or Japanese have a specific word for STEM that English does not.

Including arts and sports into STEM is just playing with semantics and patting yourself on the back for being inclusive when we used to just call this a well-rounded education. Doing so doesn’t change the fact that STEM majors exist and that people will need a term to describe them

These challenges have a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) at their core, but skills and knowledge from All other subjects are needed to create STEAM+ solutions. Transdisciplinary talent programs can be laboratories of STEAM innovation. That is what STEAM+ is all about.

I don't actually think they do, though! A biology major, pure math major, engineering BA/MA student, geology major, and "health administration" certification student are not at all doing the same things that need to be described by one term. They don't have the same educational needs or career paths.

I am not saying science isn't important, but STEM is made up.
