Just noticed, Luther Jackson's back to school night is Yom Kippur

Anonymous
The 8th grade back to school night at Luther Jackson middle school for 8th graders is at the end of Yom Kippur. I thought we were multicultural enough not to have crap like this.

Does Yom Kippur change from year to year?

I thought we were multicultural enough not to have to worry about everyone's holidays.

Homework is optional, why is back to school night mandatory?

That's not what that means. You'd be pissed if it were on Christmas.

Yom Kippur is a lunar calendar. It will be 10 days after a particular new moon (Rosh Hashanah being the new moon).

Attending BTSN is mandatory if you are a teacher. Do they have no Jewish staff?

I know of at least one. (but he was a 8th grade teacher). BTSN on Yom Kippur seems to be inconsistent with FCPS religion policy.

Your time would probably be better sent contacting the school and letting them know. They'll probably change the date once it's brought to their attention.

The schools should be secular and not kowtow to religious holidays.
