That Authoritarian Mask falling straight off.

The first tweet itself said a lot when he proclaimed NYT should hand the opinion writer over to the government... he does not hide his fascism it is the cultists who refuse to open their eyes and the complicit GOP which enables the destruction of our country!

The fact that you believe that suggests there is little hope for this country.

Anyone working in the news business knows that the truth eventually comes out and an editorial board of the country's pre-eminent newspaper is not going to be risking destroying themselves by publishing such an explosive piece if it were a fake.

This is the same editorial board that hires people who argue it's OK to kill whites, right? (See the racist comments by editorial board member Sarah Jeong.)

So no, the NYT editorial board is no longer much of a credible source for anything.

This whole situation stinks! Wish we had a real President and competent WH staff.

Yes, this is the same editorial board that also hires right wingers to write editorials.

That doesn't mean they're going to risk their paper by deliberately making up an explosive editorial and printing it as by an anonymous administration official.

You've been living in Trumplandia too long when you think major lying like that is something that casually gets done and everyone does it. Might be the case with your corrupt dear leader, but not in the rest of the normal world.

What's to stop a right-leaning newspaper from printing an "anonymous" Op-ed from an Administrstion insider condemning the president when he is a Democrat? Or if the Dems take the House, an anonymous Hill staffer spilling the beans on Democratic shenanigans?

No anonymous articles should be published.

Agreed. I *always* take anonymous sources/authors with a huge grain of salt. If I don't discount them entirely. There's simply no reason to believe anyone who won't put their name on something.

So you would've discounted Deep Throat? Would you have been one of the avid Nixon supporters until the very end?

Anonymous sources don't always mean untrue. Just ask John Edwards

Given the mounting evidence regarding Trump behavior... his own tweets; the two books; etc... I think the piece is pretty credible.

Let’s go back to the guessing game! That was more fun!

I was 95% convinced it was Pence. Word choices -amoral, early whispers, vowed, lodestar etc are all very Pence. He has a minister, paternalistic like speaking style that is in line with the tone, nuance and word choice. Its much better for Pence for Trump to be removed via the 25th. Pence knows that Trump will never resign and a Trump impeachment based on Russian collusion, and campaign finance crimes could take Pence down with him. The 25th would save Pence. The only thing that gives me pause about it being Pence is how is denied it. He used words like disgrace etc that he would never want associated with himself. If his plans are to always stay silent about writing then it could still be him. If he planned to come out soon and say it was him then he would have used different words to deny it.

My next two choices would be Kelly or Perry for different reasons. I think Kelly has had it and is about to go but realizes how dangerous Trump is to the country. His motive would be to nudge Pence and the cabinet to stand up and do something. The letter doesn't seem to be written to the general public. It seems targeted to other cabinet members and Republicans hiding in the Senate.

As a long shot maybe it was Perry who wants to run in 2020 and needs something to be look like he hasn't disappeared. He could be planting this now to come later and get a lot of news coverage when the 2020 primaries start up.

Maybe sanctioned by him, but not Pence himself. A staffer from his office for deniability's sake but otherwise agree.

What's the crime? Exercising your first amendment rights or telling the truth about the First Idiot

I think he means the acts described in the piece. But you know he hasn’t read it carefully, because those acts as described were committed by way more people than just the one who wrote the piece.

Trump now wants to use the nation’s Justice Department to root the whistleblower on his own staff.

There is still no crime!

Now whoever gave Woodward the letter with "trade is bad" in the Rump's printing may have committed theft. Why isn't he investigating this?

People in government usually don't use the term "senior officials", that sounds like a reporter to me.

Wish we had a real President and a competent WH staff. It would be better for our country. Trump's a loser and we already know it.

One more time: whistleblowers go to the government--not the press.

It could be someone who is no longer there. I have Tillerson in mind. Rumpus treated him so shabbily and Tillerson isn't accustomed to that sort of treatment and revenge served cold is so sweet. He who laughs lady, laughs best!
