| Can anyone recommend a behavior therapist for kids with ADHD in close-in DC - logan, dupont, foggy bottom, downtown etc. |
| So far all I have is KKI in Columbia. I would love this info op. |
| I would be a little astounded if you can find this -- I can't even find regular adult doctor's in downtown DC (although there is a strip of them along 19th St near M). Maybe over towards Georgetown...? |

OP here. I have found these folks: http://www.georgetown-psychology.com
Maria Zimmitti works there, as do a handful of other psychologists who appear to focus on kids with behavioral issues. It's not an ideal location for us (because M and Wisconsin is basically the hardest place to get to and park) but i'm thinking it wouldn't be horrible to uber there and back after school. One of their psychologists, Mollie Dee, also shows as having an address on Connecticut south of Dupont Circle, so i may try that first. I also found this group in cleveland park, one of whom seems to have a focus on young kids with ADHD: http://dctalktherapy.com/about-us. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Argh so frustrating that so many people have stayed in the city with kids in the last 15 years but the kid-related services lag so much! Few pediatricians, pediatric dentists, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, clothing stores, shoe stores, indoor playgrounds within the downtown core unless you start heading out to single family home territory. |

OP, this group did my kid's evaluation. It was pretty thorough. It was contracted through the school. Haven't done therapy but they're near Farragut:
http://www.psychgroupdc.com/services-2012/2012/2/22/child-services.html The eval was good, so feel free to check them out. I think KKI is often mentioned because they take insurance. PsychGroup DC generally doesn't, though they mention they're now in-network for United Behavioral Health Care. |
Yep. Rents too high for most of what you list. Zimmitti is great. And, why not walk or bike over to georgetown? Or public transit 1 mile up Connecticut ave? Isn't that an important winning point for the condo set -- that you cherish "never needing a car" ? -- resident of the wild, Wild West of SFH Territory of ward 3 who walks the 2 blocks to her kid's ped, ped dentist and OT. |
Yes, just what i need to add to my full time work schedule is twice a week of leaving work early to get to dupont to pick up my son, then walking an hour to georgetown and back again. Do you people not have jobs? |
OP, check your insurance coverage in the geographic areas. Alternatively, you could try calling some of the SN schools once school starts to see if they have recommendations. They may know of someone who will come to you/your house as well. GL. |

I hope we didn't scare OP away! This board is usually so nice.
Please come back OP and let us know whether any of these suggestions work! |
There are regular doctors in the building where the Breastfeeding Center is, many specialties (I think it's 2121 K). When I first moved here my PCP was in Foggy Bottom. GW also has PCPs on an outpatient basis. My dentist is near Dupont. |
There is a real shortage of decent SN providers no matter where you live in the DC area, especially if you need the kind who take insurance. I would say it is very unusual to be able to walk to your pediatrician, dentist and OT. We drive 10 miles to an OT who takes insurance, and we felt lucky to find them. And pediatric dentists who take insurance are few and far between. |

I would call the Psychology Group at GW and see if they can recommend someone:

Thanks all for your suggestions. Aside from the person who suggested I should just take a leisurely walk with my 3 year old son to Georgetown twice a week...... The Psych group looks like a very good option. I think I will start between that one and the Georgetown group to see if any of their people do school visits and otherwise just see what they have to offer. Thanks everyone! |

OP here again. KKI offers a "resource finder", where they can send you a list of providers near you. Below is what they sent me based on our zip in Dupont Circle area. They noted that the list is in no particular order. I just thought this would be helpful for anyone looking for someone in the city who stumbles on this posting.
