Anybody have this happen?
How do you go from being 2 parents working to 1. Does the SAH handle everything except for cleaning? Do you have a cook? |
Seems really odd. Tripling? If he was a near-executive level before, he would have been making at least $250-$300K. the exec comp package includes, stock and deferred comp so cash income doesnt triple. Even all in income usually doesnt triple overnight. I suppose moving from a government post to an executive post could give rise to this situation, but usually the type that moves from government to executive already has some previous private sector experience so the new lifestyle shouldn't be so much of a surprise. |
How old are your kids? If they are in school, what are you going to do all day, especially if you outsource the cooking and cleaning? Not that you really want to spend your life doing those chores if you're income is really tripling, but think about your day-to-day schedule.
If your kids are still young enough to be home all day, enroll them in a few Mommy and Me type classes so you have some structure to your week. |
We know someone who this happened to because of a start up. The first year was odd because they weren't sure if this would continue. |
I know someone this happened too. Next, husbands ego got huge, he started cheating with several younger women, they are now divorcing. Be careful what you wish for because you might get it. |
sudden wealth from start ups comes from stock, not cash income. The money comes all at once after a sale or IPO. Start up salaries are notoriously low for execs because investors want execs to be incented by stock price appreciation. So, no. |
Oh pooh you just sound envious. |
pp 10:32 and 11:00 here.
I will get to the bottom of this |
OP: are we talking private sector, government, non-profit or other and in what combination
-- pp10:32, etc... |
This is the most ridiculous humble brag I've ever seen. Good for your husband, OP. I'm sure he's worked hard for this. But the matter of your husband's compensation and promotion aren't actually related to your questions about division of responsibility in a family where one partners stays at home. |
Jealousy is a mofo. |
Do you not know how to cook OP?
Is it worth the transition? I agree with other PPs that it can create a inequality in your relationship. I would recommend talking through the transition with a therapist. |
Didn't you post yesterday, OP? Who capitalizes Executive? Are you considering whether to make this move or have you already made it? |
Therapy, really? context matters. Are we talking going from $90K as a government schlub to $270K as an association or non-profit "executive?" But still living in Gainesville and riding the MARC train 2.5 hours per day? Or are we talking private sector near-executive to executive and comp near $1M??? Totally different lifestyles and intra-family dynamics. -- pp 10:32 |
Yes, both posts she writes Executive with a capital E. Troll? |
