I can't believe nobody has posted about this... or they have and Jeff has deleted it?
The gist: Someone legally recorded their conversation with one of the top physicians at PP, who discussed selling the organs of aborted babies. It's possible these were illegal abortions. I had to skip through some of the graphic details. I want to throw up. |
This was posted yesterday, and the pro-lifers couldn't keep it on topic so Jeff deleted it. |
There are a lot of things to discuss about this... how did it get derailed? |
The whole thread? |
It just became rantings about the evils of abortion generally, comparing planned parenthood to death camps, how morally bankrupt the pro-choice side was, and so on. not actually discussing the particular issue here, the ethics of handling fetal tissue for donation, of adjusting abortion technique to maximize useable tissue, etc. |
Yep. I don't want to speak for Jeff, but I imagine the time involved in monitoring he thread and deleting everything inflammatory/off topic was more than the thread was worth, so he just deleted it. He's also locked a thread discussing whether this was appropriate moderation, so if you don't want this thread to disappear too, we should probably get off this particular tangent. |
http://m.snopes.com/pp-baby-parts-sale/ There's a whole lot of manipulation and ambiguity around this. Don't believe every carefully edited video you see online. |
Fixed that for you. |
OP here. Thanks for this. It's disheartening to see that Jeff and others are blinded to the fact that this video is about the entire conversation of abortion, and when you discuss one specific aspect of it, you have to discuss the topic as a whole. It's hard to stay on topic of the video other than to say "it's heavily edited to manipulate the truth" vs. the other side saying "these people are exposing the truth about PP." |
Maybe you could point to a less "propaganda" type of evidence that something bad is happening and the conversation can be useful. Do you have anything besides the video? |
But there are things to talk about, for instance, if you accept legal abortion as a given (since currently it is), what do you feel are the ethics of donating fetal tissue? Is that problematic in itself? Why? |
I don't have a problem with the donation of fetal tissue for research, which is done with the full knowledge and consent of donors, nor with PP charging nominal fees to cover the expense of storing and transporting the tissue. And anyone who works as a surgeon, with cadavers, or in medical research would not be in the least bit shocked at the frankness with which people make reference to different parts of the body, even of the deceased. All surgery is pretty gruesome. It doesn't mean abortion care is not needed or that donating fetal tissue for research is bad. |
OP, I strenuously object to your use of the word "scandal" in the headline.
Unless you are referring to the scandalous behavior of the "film" makers? If that's what you mean, sure. Somehow I don't think that's what you mean. So, I challenge the very premise of your thread. Planned Parenthood certainly didn't behave in any scandalous manner. Shame on you. |
