Beach exhibit at National Building Museum - too crowded?

Anonymous
I want to take the kids at opening time on Friday. What time should I get there? How long have the lines been?
I work the other days so Friday is the only option.
Kids are 9, 7, 1.

Friday was INSANE last week. Get there as soon as it opens. By around 11 am the line wrapped around the entire atrium.

Nanny took my kids today. They told me it was almost a 2 hour wait. They said it was awesome and totally worth waiting in line to see. My kids are 6 and 8.

My 9yr old HATED it. Said it was for babies. For him it was a huge waste of time.

2 hour wait for a ball pit!! Would be better to drive two hours and get closer to a real beach.

Remember there was a lot of press last week, including NPR story. So super crowded. Wait a little.

We went at 10:00 this morning and left by 11:30. Agree that it was packed and long lines by the time we left. My 2 year old loved it- but I won't go again.

I'm taking my kids the week before Labor Day. It'll be empty.

We went last Monday and there was no line to get in. It was fairly crowded but I had no problem getting a beach chair while DH took the kids in.

What makes this exhibit so awesome and different from a ball pit?

It's deep so that adults can go in, there are areas to sit and relax and it's clean.
