If Biden knows that immigration issues are a losing election issue, why on earth push Amnesty???

Asylum seekers are here legally. Otherwise they would've been deported during their intake session. CBP actually does deport A LOT of people trying to claim asylum, many do not get paroled into the U.S.

The people crossing the border are actually using the process afforded by current U.S. laws to remain in the country, pending a court date. These laws have been on the books for a lot longer than you or I have been alive. So a migrant who claims asylum and is released into the U.S. is "legal." Full stop. Senator Lankford is right that the proposed legislation would amend our laws to help put an end to the current situation. Frankly, we need a lot more officers and asylum judges to process the cases and deport economic migrants.

The real difference between now and 10 years ago is that all these people have TikTok, which gives them step-by-step instructions on how to claim asylum in the U.S. Previous generations of border crossers from Mexico usually didn't declare asylum; instead, they just preferred to evade CBP and remain in the U.S. without any legal authorization (i.e., "illegal immigration").

I grew up in California in the 80s and it was well known that there was a tacit agreement between CBP and seasonal Mexican border crossers who came to work on the California farms during planting and harvest seasons. No need to declare asylum when you intend to leave at the end of the season. No cartel coyotes either. Everyone just pretended to ignore each other as long as no one caused trouble. It was a gift to wealthy farming families that supported Reagan.

Did you ever watch the movie Moscow on the Hudson with Robin Williams? It came out in the early 1980s. He plays a Soviet musician who comes to tour the U.S. with the Russian circus. While shopping in Macy's in NYC, he decides to run away from his KGB minders and defects to the United States, claiming political asylum to NYPD officers. The people crossing the border and claiming asylum are doing the exact same thing as Robin Williams's character in that film. These laws have been around for a long time.

Given the letter sent by Padilla and Durbin 2 days ago, I believe the reporting here.

He needs his far left radical base voters. He has been losing them with the Israel/Gaza issue. That is why he is turning on Israel.

Biden's goal is to bring in as many illegals as possible before he is voted out. And, to try to take action to prevent Trump from being able to deport the people he has allowed in.

Yes, he is that far left.

Another victim of Biden's feckless border enforcement.

The illegal migrant accused of shooting dead a 25-year-old Michigan woman during a botched carjacking attempt had been deported during the Trump administration — but then slipped back into the US, according to officials.

Mexican national Brandon Ortiz-Vite, 25, has allegedly confessed to repeatedly shooting Ruby Garcia during an argument late Friday — including once after he got out of her car to make sure she was dead, according to court documents obtained by Fox 17, which said the pair were romantically involved.

Ortiz-Vite already had a criminal history in Michigan dating back to 2017, and was arrested on a bench warrant in August 2020 after failing to show up in court for driving violations, the outlet reported.

He was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement “and served a notice to appear,” an ICE spokesperson told Fox 17.

“He was ordered removed by an immigration judge with the Justice Department’s Executive Office of Immigration Review Sept. 24, 2020, and was removed to Mexico Sept. 29, 2020,” the immigration rep said.

“At an unknown date and location Ortiz-Vite reentered the United States without inspection by an immigration official.”

Ortiz-Vite has now been charged with felony murder, open murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony use of a firearm after Garcia’s bullet-riddled body was found on US 131 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, around 11:40 p.m. Friday.

Asylum is one thing... releasing them into society is a completely different thing.

Part 2 should not be allowed under any circumstance. If there are no resources to hold them, then they are turned back and told to wait.

Correct. Our law requires they be detained.
And, the real difference between now and 10 years ago is that now Biden is in office and through his rhetoric and his policies he has sent the message that our border is open and time to come.

+1
It's unbelievable that so many Democrats try to gaslight this fact away. Biden may be talking "tough" about the border now, but he was rolling out the red carpet on his first day in office. The past four years of this disgraceful border crisis are entirely his doing.

Detained….where? Overseen by whom? Processed by which judges?

Congress hasn’t approved enough money to handle the surge. That’s what the bipartisan legislation would have tried to solve had Trump not sabotaged it. It was a very tough immigration bill.

You can’t just waive your hands and say “detain them!” without walking through the steps to make that logically happen. The reason they are paroled right now is because we don’t have the manpower to detain and process in a speedy manner. Or even the locations to detain them. It’s just simple math.

Agreed. The goal is to have these people counted to create more electoral votes and more congressional seats.

Exactly right.

It's also sick that the right wing totally distorted and misrepresented the Senate bill. Border Patrol has the ability to detain 5000 people. The Senate Bill would give them the power to shut down the border once their detention capability is maxed out. The right wing dishonestly twisted that into carte blanche for 5000 people. Even Jim Lankford disagrees with them on that.

NEW: Chicago based ICE deportation officers have arrested a Venezuelan Tren De Aragua gang member who was released into the U.S. in July 2022 after being caught by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, TX & was arrested last month by police in Cicero, IL for a drive by shooting in the Little Italy neighborhood, then released from custody again, ICE says.

ICE Chicago found him & arrested him on March 11th. He is now in removal proceedings and has already been ordered deported, but it should be noted, Venezuela currently isn’t accepting any deportation flights from the U.S.

An ICE source tells me since he can’t be deported due to Venezuela’s refusal to take their citizens back, he will likely stay in ICE detention for the foreseeable future.

I suggest tossing him over the border where he originated - Mexico. They let him in, make it their problem. Either that or Delaware.
