How was it controlling weight gain while pregnant and how was losing it afterwards?
I have 2 kids already. Was size 18 when I got pregnant the first time and made it through two pregnancies without putting on any extra weight. I've lost 35 pounds and am thinking about #3. Don't want all my hard work to go to waste so wondering how hard it was to not put all the weight back on. |
I'm still pregnant, 30 weeks, but I lost 18 lbs before I got pregnant. At 30 weeks I've gained the 18 lbs back, but it's all in my belly- my arms and legs look pretty much the same. Trying to at least somewhat continue the healthy eating habits I developed while losing the weight before I got pregnant has made it easier to manage my weight during pregnancy. |
Lost 40lbs before DS. Gained almost 40lbs with him (even though I ate healthy and worked out every day). First week or so post partum lost 30, then lost 5 quickly after. Struggled to lose additional 5lbs, and body didn't look the same (hips were just wider). |
Thanks, ladies! Congrats on your babies and the weight loss! |
I lost about 145 lbs before I got pregnant; I went from 280 to 135. I actually hit that final goal weight two days before the FET that finally worked, so I had literally *just* finished losing the weight. There was no time for my body to adjust, and unfortunately I started gaining immediately when I got pregnant - I was 8 lbs up on the scale before I even had my beta (all water weight, clearly). I gained rapidly and steadily throughout the pregnancy, about 30 lbs per trimester for about 95 lbs in total. There was no controlling it, I just kept gaining steadily no matter what I did. I had a really hard time with it, especially in the first trimester. It felt like all my very hard work had been for naught. But, it did all come off, plus a little extra. I was down 75 lbs by 6 months postpartum (without any effort), and the last 20 or so I lost slowly over the following year (with a little effort). For about a year now I've been maintaining at 5 lbs below my lowest pre-preg weight.
Congratulations on your loss!! If you've been able to maintain your loss I wouldn't worry too much about losing weight postpartum... you've already ingrained new, healthier habits that you'll be able to return to when your body is your own again. ![]() |
I gained a ton with my first, after I had lost a bunch of weight. But then I gained much less with 2 and 3. I never got back to where I was, though, tbh. |
With that amount of weight loss, I assume you've been practicing a healthy lifestyle for a while and have had weight loss for a fairly significant period.
If you had just lost 5 pounds in the last month, I'd expect you to put it back on again. But with this kind of lifestyle change (especially considering that you already have kids and know how hard it is to find time to workout, etc., with them), I don't think I would stress at all. You are definitely going to gain some weight, but I think you'll ultimately take most of it off and get back to this weight. Continue the same lifestyle you've been living while pregnant as much as possible. In other words, don't use pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever you want or stop exercising (except maybe in the first trimester if you feel really sick). Afterwards, don't be upset if you keep the weight on for a little bit. Just keep chipping away at it with this same lifestyle (and recognize that doing so with an infant is going to be tricky). You'll get there! No worries. |
You are awesome! How did you lose the weight each time? |
Thank you - I was pretty determined to lose it, which helped a lot. ![]() |
Thanks for that...it's inspiring. I am overweight and dealing with GD. I need to lose a lot of weight postpartum. This gives me hope! |
