I was on the Hill during his tenure but working for the other party, so really have no clue what kinds of skeletons are in his closet. Any educated guesses or hunches? |
Could be anything. He was a high school teacher and a coach. Based on the dollar amount, I'd guess child support is involved. It seems like far too much money for just a cover up. |
I'm guessing he molested a kid when he was a coach/teacher? |
+1 |
By the way, the trend on the GOP house leadership is not looking good. Hastert was the third choice to replace Gingrich, because DeLay and Livingston had their own ethics issues.
At least Boehner has some integrity. |
How much integrity can a drunk have? |
Another episode of House of Cards. So much corruption. |
He could pay child support electronically without getting the attention of the FBI. There would also be no need to lie to the FBI about it. They don't care about some love child. $100,000 in cash every 3 months is an enormous amount of hush money. The skeleton must be huge. |
Honestly, a lot. But I don't see how a drunk could spend 25 years in Washington DC without some publicly embarrassing situation to prove your rumor. |
sexual molestation |
It has to be something illegal. He wouldn't pay this much to cover up any type of affair, love child, sex with an intern or other embarrassing but not illegal behavior. |
I do wonder, why now?? If it were something about molesting a kid when he was a coach, wouldn't that person have tried to use it when he had the most to lose -- at the height of his political power? Wonder if it is possibly something related to his time as Speaker. Not to get all House of Cardsy, because I think that show is garbage, but I do wonder if it relates to his official duties. |
It could've taken the victim a while to get the courage to confront him. |
Molestation would be a he-said-she/he-said. I'm not sure Hastert would pay what has to amount the bulk of his net worth on an allegation that likely couldn't be proven. I also think any molestation charges would have come out when he was in office. I'm guessing he did something illegal that involved a big pay-off/bribe while he was a in the House. I'm also guessing that the person bribing him is someone who worked for him. |
Yeah that could make sense. District Director type - said he/she was from his hometown, right? |
