How much do you tip a massage therapist for a 60 minute massage?

It's not about being cheap or stingy. It's about the growing list of professions that expect their wage to be supplemented by their customer when how much they get paid is a managerial or practioner issue. We can list a host of professions where people work hard and are grossly underpaid but the idea of tipping them for their services is laughable. If you want more money for doing your job charge more, work in a venue where the compensation is adequate or switch professions.

Happy ending means an increased tip.

Well The owners of a spa should be paying the massage therapists half of what their charging That would be 30.00 hour. for a 60.00 dollar massage. A tip is stupid in my opinion. These workers are making more than most hourly workers. I refuse to get massages now. I have been tipping these people and what i need to do is open a spa and hire massage therapists for 10.00 hour and make all the money. let the public pay for the therapists. That is how stupid we all are. I feel so ripped off. Tips should not be expected. They went to school to give massages that is their work. The owners of the business should pay them appropriately. That is the answer.

Should not pay tip for massage, $90/hour, is enough

Why I did not get 20% beside my salary ? I did excellent service for the company. It really depend on the business model. Massage is already high paid if you pay $90/hour.

I paid at the end of my last massage $60 for one hour and handed the girl a $10 bill as a tip. She pointed to their own sign on the counter that called for 20% and said my $10 wasn’t enough. Can you believe it? I felt like saying “you set the price but I set the tip”, but just walked out. I changed organizations and that wasn’t satisfactory either so I’m still looking.

Yeah try working in gross stinky mouths all day as a dentist?! Covered in spit by the end of the day. But it’s the job I chose! I’ll have carpel tunnel soon too and why am I looking for a massage therapist???....because of my neck/back breaking job as a dentist. I don’t even make $100 an hour. Why is it even appropriate to tip for medical services?! Why is it customary for massage if not for PT, chiropractic, dental and other medical related services?
