I did not realize just how dedicated they were...

This was a really good article about the herculean task of social workers. But its also further indictment against the mother. A social worker can only do so much when the mother 1) forges drs notes and 2) goes along with faked phone calls and 3) tell teachers "not to worry"-- I can only imagine the racial and social politics involved for her to NOT be sitting in jail right now. She is has horrible as the janitor. |
This is not a child who fell through the cracks. This is a child whose family betrayed her and sold her. No amount of social services could have saved her. I hope her mother gets the punishment she deserves. That poor sweet girl. |
+100. I still get teary reading about how callous and deceptive her family was. By the time social services and the school were wise to the deception, Relisha was long dead. Poor thing. |
+1. I hope she ends in jail |
The grandmother too. |
Thank goodness for heroes such as the social worker in this article, Workman. I couldn't face a job like that daily, but I'm grateful to people like him who can. It's a constant uphill battle for him. These true heroes should be raised up in our society more often. I'm glad this article was written.

Justice will never be served with this case. |
Could she still be alive? |
It's possible. However, if she is, statistics state that she has been forced into child prostitution. |
+1 this is truly just heartbreaking to me. god bless that social worker and his efforts. i wonder why this woman is not in custody yet? |
Insufficient evidence
She can claim innocence of Tatam being anything but an uncle figure, and there is no one around to dispute it. Tatum, his wife, and likely Ralisha are all gone. |
She can claim Tatum duped her but there is evidence that she was in on this from the beginning. She lied directly to the teachers and the social worker. She knew her daughter wasn't in class and continued to cover up for Tatum. That alone is neglect. Whats terrifying is that she is still trying to get custody back of her other kids. The only thing that would have saved these kids is if a social worker could have terminated her rights when the kids were toddlers. Maybe they would have had a better chance to get adopted while young and before major issues took hold. |
I read the Post article. Thanks for the link. I am filled with rage. How on Earth could a mother do this to her child? How can we as a society let this happen? Why can we put a man on the moon and build a space station but yet we cannot address mental illness and poverty? |
Parents sell their kids every day, right here in the US. Sex trafficking is huge. |
