Natural birth friendly OBGYN in Loudoun, Reston or Fairoaks?

Anonymous
Hi,

I searched the posts and don't see any suggestions. We are looking for a doctor, midwife and or dula for a birth in late March in Loudoun (or Reston or Fair Oaks). Unfortunately we live outside the US (my family is from Loudoun and we have lived there before) and need to start this process remotely. Im 40 yrs old pregnant 32 weeks w/ my first child (a girl). Im on clexane (heprin type blood thinner) due to recurrent miscarriages and MTHF factor. I have contacted Loudoun County Midwifes and they wont take on women that are on anticoagulants. We will not be in the US until 1 month prior to birth, but I would like to get set up with a birth 'team'. I would like to give birth at Loudoun, Fairoaks or Reston (although I hear reston does not allow dulas so that seems to be a negative).

I would appreciate any suggestions for doctor, midwife and or dula in Loudoun or Fairfax that would support a natural childbirth for me.

Thanks in advance,
Phean

Hi,
I've heard good things about Dr. Chauncey Stokes who delivers at Loudoun. I'll be delivering there myself in July with the midwives. Best of luck!

Did you try asking the midwives for a referral? I am delivering with them in mid-March but have had a very normal pregnancy. They are wonderful - and they seem to have a lot of connections within the community, so I would think they might know a Dr. that would meet your needs. I know they work with 2 docs that are on-call for them if needed - maybe one of these docs would work for you? If the docs are midwife-friendly that says a lot about their philosophies on birthing. Good luck!

The doula there now, Lori Cooper, is based in Virginia, though she travels all over.

All my friends love the midwives at Loudoun Community Midwives. They labor at Loudoun Hosp...a very natural friendly hospital.

Reston doesn't allow doulas.

HTH!!

I would ask the LCMidwives who is their doctor that sees their high risk patients, because I had a friend that was on insulin for Gestational Diabetes. The midwives sent her
to Dr. Foster, not sure of first name, and just coached the birth. Helping her to deliver without the use of drugs, but they were not her attending, if that makes sense. They were there for the birth, but not as her delivery doctor.

Dr. Stokes is in a law suit right now involving fraud, a botched delivery, and I would not recommend him. The Maternal fetal Associates of Loudoun are great high risk doctors and the midwives are good too.

I found the Loudoun OBGYN practice very cold and conservative.

I liked the doctors at Loudoun Physicians for Women group MUCH better and more open to alternatives.

What did the OP decide/go?
