Forest Knolls Elementary in Silver Spring

I hear both good and bad things about this school.

Our older kids don't go there, but we are considering it for our youngest, who will be in K in 2016. Can anyone offer me first hand feedback on the school?

Search the threads and you'll find lots of comments about the school, mostly positive. My personal experience has been great - my two kids have done kindergarten through 5th grade and have had great teachers the whole way. Current acting principal, who is under consideration for the principal position, has been good for the school. Active, approachable PTA. Amazing music teacher, great communication arts program, teachers who go above and beyond for their students. I'm sure there are some negatives, but I haven't had anything to complain about while my kids have been there.

Thanks, PP. I searched but don't see much after about 2011, so I was hoping for current parents' feedback - thank you!

We love Forest Knolls. In fact, when one of our kids was accepted into Pine Crest's highly gifted center, it was a tough decision about whether to accept. At least one other child turned down the HGC to stay at Forest Knolls. Most of the teachers are really terrific and dedicated. We've had a couple that were mediocre, but one retired and the other is beloved by my child, although I don't see her as particularly energetic (at least compared to the rest). FK also has a good after-care program by Kids After Hours. The only downside that concerns me is that it's getting more crowded. But for my younger kids, they still have just 19 children in the class.

I would like to tell you that it's awful so that my kid who will enroll in 2018 will have small classes. Unfortunately everything I hear is positive and I have too much of a conscience to be completely self-serving.
