How often do you give tylenol/motrin to your teething baby?

DO you give it everyday, all day long? Just at night? Just when they are overly fussy? I have been giving it when he seems overly fussy and before bed, but now that I think it is bothering him more I was wondering if I should just give it during the day ad well as at night. But I feel like I would be constantly giving it to him, is it OK for babies to get tylenol/motrin so often for an extended period of time? Obviously I will ask my ped, but just looking for some advice. Thanks!

We only used it when my DS was very very fussy and had trouble sleeping. And for the most part I only used it only at night. But I've used it all day when my child seemed sick (which could have actually been really bad teething).

If you do start using it all day, write down the time you gave it to your child. I am amazed how easy it is to forget - especially if you are sleep deprived. Writing it down will help avoid an overdose.

Once at night, when DC was unusually fussy. That lasted 2 nights, perhaps 3 max. Just to help with sleep.

I only used it at night when my babies were terribly fussy. My pediatrician warned against using it more than seven days in a row even with only one dose a day. Since teething can go on for months, I choose to use it only when things got really bad.

Never. Both babies didn't get overly fussy when teething. I worry about the safety of pain relievers at that young age.

I did the same. I noticed he got fussy late in the afternoon - after 4:00. I'd give him Motrin about an hour before bedtime knowing it takes about 20 minutes for it to kick in. When I did that, he'd calm down and had a good night's rest.

Try giving him frozen food to munch on (depending on the age) - long green beans work for the back teeth, also frozen bagels work nice too. Munchkin has a mesh bag with handle that you can put food in. I just put an ice cube in it and that seemed to satisfy him during the day.

we did it most nights during the months my daughter appeared to be in the most pain (top teeth, molars, etc.) but most of the time she toughs it out. they're not allowed to give her meds at daycare, so she's never taken much during the day. we typically alternated tylenol one night, motrin the next.

Once at night.

Never had to for teeth since neither kid ever showed any teething pain. Even if they did, I would have used sparingly - only at night and only if they were really miserable.

I think your approach is good - only giving any pain medication when baby is very very fussy. Otherwise during the day try a wet cloth that was in the freezer for a little while, be sure to have lots of teething toys with different textures (biting on these are really good for relieving the pain), and some teething toys that come out from the fridge (my daughter loved those).

Once during the day if he's really fussy, and same deal at night. But never for more than 3 days in a row.

We only use it at night but there are some weeks where we give it every night. I gave it to my 14 month old last night for the first time in 2-3 weeks. She just cut a molar so we've been dealing with those for a while. I try to use good judgement - DD isn't a fussy kid so its usually pretty clear when her teeth are hurting her.

Never. I am way more concerned about the effects of Motrin on their livers than about their teething grumpiness. Teething goes on for so long and is so nebulous -- you could end up giving them Motrin several times a day for days and days -- that can't be healthy for them. Plus mine can usually be distracted with a cold teether or washcloth or a change of scenery. I try to save Motrin for a last resort, when a fever is high or they've bonked their heads or something.
