Planet Fitness Drops Member After Gender Identity Complaint

Anonymous
This isn't about a person's right to be transgender but the right for Planet Fitness to notify its guests that you might share a locker room with a male (or female) who self identifies as a woman/man. I would've been frightened if a man (regardless if he identifies as female) had walked into the locker room while I was undressing.

I would've been frightened too if I had seen a man in the womens locker room. Even a prominent member of the transgender community said "...any facility looking to support the transgender community must have the proper facility so that supporting LGBT rights does not impose upon those who may not have a full understanding of her community. Private showers and changing rooms would go a long way in resolving these issues....."

I agree wholeheartedly. The woman who was dropped from Planet Fitness has rights too.

Planet Fitness doesn't have to "warn" anybody of anything.

The woman who was dropped violated reestablishes company policy. I don't see any problem there, and she's not seeking reinstatement of her membership, anyway.

It was because she was going around complaining to other patrons after the policy had been explained to her.

The no judgement policy is plastered all over the walls, in 3'-5' letters. They deny memberships to super muscular people. They have a lunk alarm, and use it if someone is perceived as showing off. How did she not know about the no judgement policy?!

Seriously thinking of joining Planet Fitness on the strength of this. It's nice to see a company that walks the walk!

Uh, what? Why does Planet Fitness have to "warn" everybody about someone's health condition? It's not affecting anyone. And making you "uncomfortable" isn't affecting you - that's something you need to come to grips with on your own. If you have a problem checking out or being obsessed with people's genitals in the locker room or bathroom, then the problem is yours - not the problem of a transgender person. Also, you sound creepy and gross, and I don't want to share a gym with you. Keep your eyes on your own body.

Terminating the busybody woman who was complaining and telling someone else about her gym-mate's health situation (and yes, Gender Identity Disorders are health topics) was the right thing to do - she rude at best, unsafe at worst.

+1 Planet Fitness!

That was my initial thought too.

And OP, I do understand the woman's surprise, and even empathize with her discomfort. It's just in her shoes, I would not have complained. I would have worked through my own issues. I have empathy for the transgendered person, too. That doesn't mean immediate ease and acceptance. That means putting myself in the other person's shoes. And life in this culture is far harder for a transgendered person than it is for someone who occasionally runs into a transgendered person in a bathroom or locker room. I'd much rather try to be nice and accommodating rather than making a stink.

"No judgement" yet they judge anyone who is actually fit? Discrimination against "super muscular" people?

Sorry. If you have a penis, use the men's room. I don't give a crap what you "feel" like. If a business wants to invest in a third private changing area, more power to them, but imposing on the vast majority of conforming population is bullshit PC gone amok.

This is wonderful. Bless you.

How often are you checking out the genitals of people in the bathroom or locker room? Do you always look at people's crotches? Gross.

You're in the minority for giving a shit, sunshine. Shuffle off to the tar pit and join the rest of the dinosaurs. Leave the transgender people who are just trying to pee/change/workout alone.

You know there are some people who have ambiguous genitalia. According to your Very Important Opinion, which bathroom do you dictate they go to? Do you need to personally examine everyone's bits?

If someone's private parts offend you, maybe don't look? Are you aware that you share a bathroom & locker room with lesbians? How does that make you feel?

You do know that almost all of the vehemence against your response are coming from one (at the most two) person. You can tell by the style of writing. That said, I agree with you but have no problem with providing additional/gender neutral facilities.

And why do you assume that a transgender person wouldn't be checking ouf the genitals of people in a bathroom or locker room? Nobody's walking water contrary to your beliefs.

As an aside, how could a company spell its motto wrong?!!!!! Judgment in the US is spelled without an E. I could never go there. I would be irritated everyday.
