Canada Goose jackets - worth the money?

Anonymous
I like the look of a few Canada Goose jackets and they seem designed for max warmth. Any reviews? They cost a lot!

I love my Canada Goose, I live in a very cold climate and its been worth every penny. Not sure DC gets cold enough but if you're cold they make great coats.

My friend got one -- what a wonderful warm coat. Go for it.

I think it depends on where you live. I am in northern NH and lots of people here have them, but I've heard from a few friends that they were disappointed in the warmth for the price. However, I have a Land's End down coat and I am absolutely warm enough with that and I'm outside a lot walking around. Most people here have LL Bean or LE.
My DH has a mountain hardwear coat with down and he is very warm in it and it has made a difference.

I think you are paying a lot for the name and it's a LOT of money. If you are in DC I don't think it's worth it for the amount of wear you will get out of it.

I have one and I absolutely love it. I am someone who is cold all the time, so I truly appreciate a warm coat. I also travel to very cold climates (Canada) during the winter and won't leave home without it.

They trap and kill coyotes for the fur on the hood-not a fan of this practice.

Spectacular coats! Daughter at college loves her CG. North Face is just not warm or rugged enough for the climate. Routinely waking up to windchills in the negative teens and twentys. Single best purchase I made for back to school. If cold and wind are a true consideration, don't waste money on anything else. If you are going for style, you are missing the purpose of CG.

I read an article that said that Canada Goose made coats for LLBean under the LLBean label. I'd check out similar coats there...the price seems ridiculous to me, you could buy six coats for those prices.

If you're the type who cares about labels and logos, then yes it is worth it for you. If you just want a really warm coat, go to LL Bean or REI and spend 1/3 of the price and you will be just as warm if not warmer.

Are you joking? The CG label is EXACTLY why people buy it. Trust me, that's why your kid wanted it. Tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to sleep at night.

Actually kid never heard of it. Read article about extreme cold gear and several artic worthy brands came out as good investments due to their quality construction. Imagine my shock when I discove how hard it was to get that coat. Always brand oblivious, my daughter now has noticed how many classmates have the same coat. She swears there is no going back. She has dozens of north face jackets and one full length down coat but, they just can't take the temps and wind like CG. I agree someone in DC is not out to wear CG because of the weather.

If you are going to mostly be wearing it around here, I would suggest an LL Bean coat. I got the ultralight 3/4 coat for this winter and have been really happy with it- super warm and super lightweight. My sister who lives in Minneapolis also has the coat and says it works perfectly (although if she's standing outside for a long time, like at a football game, she puts another layer on underneath).

I'm all for great gear, but you just don't need a Canada Goose around here and I think you wouldn't wear it that much because you would get too hot.
