The real pigs are the flyover f*cks who refuse to enter the 21st century. I can't until milenialls are in charge. You're weird little tea party, fake patriot, backwards, regressive, insane antics aren't going to fly.

^^^This is what we have to look forward to? Oh, goody. I really can't wait to have someone as charming as you "in charge."

If you haven't noticed, we are not fine.

I am quite fine. 401k up 30% since Trump was elected. Tax cuts soon. My company is hiring. Yes, quite fine thank you.

Yep. Same here - didn’t vote for him but now that I’m benefiting, I’m not going to sit here complaining on behalf of all these so called marginalized groups - who btw also benefit from a good economy.

So when the dems had the Whitehouse and congress, and the gov was shutdown, it was the republicans fault

Then when the dems had the Whitehouse and republicans had congress and the gov was shutdown, it was the republicans fault.

Then when the republicans had the Whitehouse and the dems had congress and the gov was shutdown, it was the republicans fault.

Then when the republicans had the Whitehouse and congress and the gov was shutdown, its the republicans fault.

So when exactly is it EVER the democrats fault?

Maybe when there isn't an abusive republican president who says the government needs a good shutdown?

'Not a Trump voter' my a$$.

OP here -- not sure how to prove to you that I didn't vote for Trump, but I didn't. I also wasn't in love with Obama the way all liberals are.

I expect this thread to get completely deleted. Jeff and Maria do not take kindly to obama criticisms. At all.

The country survived fine the last time. Didn’t skip a beat. Well maybe only the folks inside the beltway got affected but no one else

You do realized that many feds still had to show up for work, right? Even though they didn’t know if they’d be paid for it. I’m glad that our dedicated federal employees manged to keep things running seamlessly so that you did not have to skip a beat. You should thank them.

Not the pp you are responding to but the anger and frustration with conservatives in pp's post is very real and very much justified.

They don't benefit from 401k if they work at McDonalds. A bunch of those "so-called" marginalized groups are also disproportionately lower middle class/working poor -- earn too much to benefit from Medicaid but too little to be able to pay for health insurance. They make enough to get taxed, and they rely on the deductions that are being eliminated. They will be destroyed by tax cuts. So no, they don't always benefit from a "good economy."

Anonymous wrote:Not a Trump voter, but I will say if the democrats hold any budget or negotiations hostage over DACA, I will be livid. Sure we all want the DACA kids to do fine, but come on -- they've gotten plenty from this country for the last 2 decades (getting to live here; free public education) and while it was nice that Obama pushed for DACA, they and their families all knew that DACA need not become permanent or be continued under any other president. It's not like anyone promised them citizenship and now that's being taken away.

I realize there is a GOP majority so if they all get on the same page, a shutdown can be avoided; but I think it will be ludicrous if not one Dem will vote for any budget unless it gives them their preferred solution on DACA bc they are so beholden to the Hispanic vote . . . .

Were you making the same statements when the right threatened and forced closures in years past?

Generally speaking, the dems haven't threatened or executed on closing down the government. These are threats and actions from the right.

WRONG. There has never been a shutdown when the same party controlled Congress and WH. Think Obama-Boehner and Clinton-Newt. Again, a Dem-Dem and R-R shouttooo HAS NEVER HAPPENED. And why should it? If you have all the control, why should you need a power play?
