Mark Wahlberg

I say it is time to agree that he turned his life around, but I wouldn't grant him a pardon. He should continue to live with the consequences of his actions. No, he should not be able to become a reserve police officer.

Who cares?

The fact of the matter is this - that while Wahlberg, a white actor, has a record, so do rappers - http://www.complex.com/music/2012/10/the-30-biggest-criminal-trials-in-rap-history/chi-ali

Yet we think they're cool.

manslaughter
sexual assault of a child
carjacking attempt
assault
robbery
second-degree murder
first-degree murder
probation violation
kidnapping

I could go on and on.

PP, no need to go on about crimes committed, but please elaborate on other rappers that have been pardoned or requested a pardon. You seem to have missed the point entirely.

He must really hate black people considering they are in his video and he is having sex with one.

Remember OJ? He got away with murder--two of them.

Jay-Z wouldn't be laughed out of court.

Not all black people are poor and downtrodden...and not all white people grew up in privilege.

I don't think he should be granted the pardon. However, I know his neighborhood very well from that time period, and street violence was a given. So don't clutch your pearls over his past unless you would do the same for guys who grew up in more familiar-sounding bad neighborhoods (Compton, etc.).

The man Mark Wahlberg hit came forward and said that he was not blinded by the altercation.

That's weird, about the victim. Did Wahlberg pay him off? Is it the wrong man, or were Wahlberg and the police wrong back in'88?

I think Mark Wahlberg deserves a little more credit than he's getting here. He came from a really rough place and did some stupid criminal things. Then he rose above it and then he rose above his Marky Mark persona to become a very successful actor, producer and businessman who is by all accounts extremely focused on being a great dad and a good example.

I'm not saying he deserves a pardon, just some credit.

I agree. He was a dumb 16 year old. He made some severe stupid mistakes. Shall he kill himself and never be happy?
He seems like a great guy.

No, he was not.

He was tried as an ADULT. His chronological age at the time of the offense is therefore meaningless. Stop trying to revise history.

Furthermore, there are plenty of other things he is allowed to do. I do not think he deserves preferential legal treatment while most offenders in similar situations are stuck with the consequences of their actions.

Not PPs. I don't get your point. He committed a crime at 16 or 17, was tried as an adult, and served time for it. Did his age affect his time served? Possibly. It wasn't his fortune that bought him a shorter time served, because he wasn't famous at that time.

Do I think he should be pardoned? I don't know, but now seems to be the right time to ask (with the governor on his way out). I do think he paid his debt to society, and he has been clean for over 20 years. I also don't think he has to pay restitution to victims, although that might help to get a pardon.

First pardon all people who, at under 18, were tried as adults and who did time served and who had no subsequent violations and who created no permanent physical damage to any person in their feloney. Then consider Marky Mark, the UTrau Man.

Really? As a hate f^ck, right?
I was going to comment on how he hasn't aged well. But I guess I've never really been a fan. Not my type.

Actually, he's a religious conservative, so none of this is surprising.
