So frustrated with PG County specialty schools lottery!

No sibling preference for the TAG program. Every kid has to all the TAG certifications (pass the test, get teacher recommendations, etc)

I believe that if the older sibling is TAG identified that there is a sibling preference. I'm not sure how that will work if there are no open slots in the higher grades though.

I stand corrected. I got this from the PGCPS website.

"...provides special consideration
for siblings applying to the
same program at entry-level. Entrylevel
is defined as Pre-Kindergarten,
Kindergarten, 2nd grade or 9th grade
depending on the program. Early entry
options do not apply to Specialty/Charter
Program placements. If parents have
children other than entry-level that wish
to participate in the Specialty/Charter
Program, they must apply through the
regular lottery application process. Siblings
who are currently participating in
a Specialty Program are not eligible for
a sibling placement preference and any
acceptance removes options for future
sibling placements. "

I too am frustrated with the PG county specialty schools lottery. I am on the wait list for the 4 year old Montessori program, and so far only 1 child has been selected for the 4 year old program! I can't believe ONLY 1! What is the point of having a lottery for 4 year olds if they've only offered a slot to 1 lucky kid. PGCPS might as well just have the lottery for the 3 year old program and do away with 4 year old lottery. I'm so dissapointed...

Thanks for the info on sibling preference for TAG.

My daughter got wait listed to attend Thomas Pullen, she's going into the 1st grade....we got wait list number 8. Anyone have an insight into the possibilities of us actually getting placed with wait number 8 for first grade?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the club. Imagine if your younger kid got in and your older one didn’t and you were stuck applying for the lottery and sending them to private Montessori every year.

They really should give preference to the older siblings in some form because it is such a huge hasssle having two little kids in separate schools.

We are #2 preschool age 4 for Hanson Montessor.i There has not been any movement since it was first posted. Anyone know the chances that we will get in?

I've seen zero movement as well, my child is #7 and I had expectations that she would get in...however with school starting in just a few weeks I had no choice but to register her at our local school. I'm wondering the slow movement has anything to do the selection of the new CEO and executive team, a lot of that is up in the air...just wondering if it could be affecting this process as well. Just a thought...

Hope it all works out well for all of us, soon.

I don't think it has anything to do with the office. It is exactly the same every year and a lot of it has to do with parents registering to keep the spot while they are still making the decision of actually taking it. A friend is pulling her kid out of a specialty program so he can go to.private but she isn't notifying the school until the last minute in case she changes her mind.

PGCPS can't do anything about that. You can call the school office and see if they have and up to date information.

So if possible and we can wait it out, do you think spots will open up?
