I feel like a lot of these lyric connections are reaching. Like Harry STYLEs is also a tattooed, smoking, James Dean wannabe. And she and Joe did in fact have romantic vacations on the beach.

Delicate is clearly about Joe. She references his blue eyes and outfit choices. You understand that albums aren’t produced and released in a few days? She surely wrote and maybe even recorded that toward the beginning of the relationship with Joe.

If this is true then Joe must’ve been a contract relationship and definitely not someone she intended to marry. It also would reflect arrested development/immaturity or something - pining for 10 years without being together? I just don’t buy it.

Not clear at all. She never mentions eyes? When she sings about the color blue it’s right after talking about clothes and Nikes. Matty is almost always in black & white clothes, but there was a time when he wore a really stunning blue Nike hoodie that fans were commenting on because it was so unusual for him. I am a fan of The 1975 so I remember details like that.

I think Taylor has used red herrings in songs in the past to divert attention, but there are references to locations, times of day (I should say night and word exchanges in her songs that the person they are about would recognize immediately.
They both have big egos and pride, and I just don’t think it makes sense for Matty to have done the Oh Caroline video & dance as a twin to the Delicate dance if there were no references to him in Delicate.

It’s not a theory. She told us herself. CLEAR as day in the new album: you were my best friend, my “twin”, swirled you in all of my songs, loss of my life etc. Matty is in all of the songs on the new album that have a reference to love and loss except So Long, London, The Alchemy and So High School. So that leaves about a minimum of 16 songs about Matty Healy 😜

I too suspect they knew each other prior to 1989's release and some (many?) songs on that album are about Matty. This Love, How You Get the Girl, Clean, Style...could easily all be all inspired by Matty.
