Graduation parties

No gifts between classmates families, that’s asinine. Gifts from neighbors are usually due to some relationship: babysitter, pet sitter. No gift is expected.

If you are hosting, just make sure there is plenty of discrete booze for the parents (and sure, why not the kids).
Twisted Tea, Hard Seltzer, etc. Maybe some jello shots as well.

Ah yes, another thread that has people at the far end of either spectrum that devolves into one side name calling with words like privileged and crazy. Give what you can afford or don't, it's personal choice.

In old money wasp land, you get a book. Maybe. (And fully funded college, down payment on house, your own kids college paid for, etc)

100%

I'm the pp upstream that grew up locally and extravagant gifts and big parties were not the norm. Husband's working class/poor neighborhood--HS graduation parties are a big deal (it's last stop and many drop-out before graduation).
