This describes a lot of non-immigrant Americans. Most of the immigrants I know are highly educated and wealthy.

Not in the DCC schools where I work. if this is the future of America, we are doomed.

The schools you work at are not all of America you redneck. I hope you haven’t bred.

It's GOOD! Overpopulation, overcrowding is a real issue here. TOO MANY PEOPLE AND NOT ENOUGH RESOURCES TO GO AROUND. You can't even find a decent place to live right now. Plus people pouring into the country some of which instantly having babies so they can get them citizenship. It's a nightmare all around.

If they don't want to pay for their own fertility treatments then how to they expect to be able to afford children?

These two are not the same. You can easily spend 3x on fertility treatments compared to daycare. Easily.

If you're over 40 and it isn't working out then you only have yourself to blame. You listened to all the women here talkinga bout how easy is to get pregnant and how everyone women they know had a baby on her own at 45. They need to educate younger women better rather then spend billions on Hail Mary fertility treatments. That would solve the problem.

I'm not over 40 and I can afford fertility treatments but the source of my infertility isn't egg quality. I have recurrent pregnancy loss. Most of the women in this group are young get pregnant often and easily but lose all pregnancies.

So then I wasn't talking about you. If you're over 40 you have an age problem, not a medical problem.

What else do you expect?

We live in a useless, sclerotic America. Other than the poor whited and blacks, and the immigrants.

Global undesirables? Because some humans are less desirable than others? Jesus.

You do realize that most other countries make sure you have money, a job and PASS a language test before being invited to stay right? We don't.

Oh the irony.

It's a nice story--that the lack of maternity leave and universal healthcare is preventing women from having kids--but even if true, it isn't the whole truth. Plenty of countries with strong social safety nets are also seeing low fertility rates. Sweden and Norway are both under 1.7. The mood is pessimistic, our government is not operating well, the future is uncertain, we are bombarded with negative messages all day (the environment, politics, pollution, health issues, declines in education, racial tensions). It's no wonder people don't feel like having babies. Kids used to be an asset, they would help run your business, farm your land, raise your other children, sew/cook/clean. Now they are a liability, taking huge portions of your wealth and using it to...I dunno, protest on college campuses?

Lol. Exactly.

Redneck? You must be a liberal/ progressive. You obviously do not work in urban public schools or you would know this is true.

This is at least in part a consequence to needlessly shutting down society from 2020 - 2023. People had less opportunity to meet, date, get married, and have babies. People who already had kids got completely screwed by the libs. Many moms put off adding a new baby to the mix of caring for existing kids, doing the teacher's job, plus their own job.

Opening borders would even further harm our national security. Immigration of poor people would be a terrible solution, creating a further drain on society.

The birth rate will pick up, but no wonder it dropped off in 2023.
