DC CAPE?

Our elementary did it over 6 days and DS said it was only an hour or so. 3 days math with 3 hours total and 3 days of ELA with 3 hours. They took it first thing in the morning and had normal school the rest of the day.

It doesn’t sound like a big deal to me. It’s not like it’s all day for 6 days.

Who wrote this year's CAPE questions - the usual folks who wrote PARCC or did they establish new test writers already?

My third grader just finished and didn’t seem to think it was particularly difficult. She had been worried about having enough time to do the essays but found the practice test they did harder than the real one.

Yeah, having now done this with elementary and middle school kids, I feel like the results seemed more useful in elementary and early middle.

When are parents/students notified of individual CAPE results?

October-ish

I wish I was joking.

That's terrible. Why didn't they have them take the 8th grade test? The results now will make DCI look bad.

This is DC. What do you think?

No idea. This could go either way.

Well, the advanced math track technically had 8th grade math in 7th grade. The surprise was that they didn't take the Algebra CAPE (which is the bulk of what they cover in Integrated Math) instead of the Geometry CAPE.

Wow! I was not expecting that at all. Thanks!

Absolutely ridiculous.

Anonymous wrote:You could fix the MS/HS problem by making DC CAPE count towards kids grades. That's what they do with Regents in NYS and it works.

Whoa, wait! My DC said there were several math questions related to geometry that they had not covered in math yet. It doesn't not seem fair. Only the kids whose parents supplement have a fair chance at a good score.

The whole point of CAPE is that a 5 is above grade level. You can’t actually measure that without having above grade level questions. Surely you understood that? If you count it towards a kid’s grades, obviously a 4 would be all that was needed for maximum credit.
