You are kidding right? I grew up in that community Women in chabad are not treated the same as men https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/489222/jewish/Are-Women-Second-Class-Citizens-in-Traditional-Judaism.htm Yeah no the whole description of women’s role in society by Chabad is horrible. You have no idea what you are talking about While I respect another person’s choice to participate let’s be honest it’s a cult and why would anyone want a daughter raised in that community ? No different than any other ultra orthodox religion yuck |
Wow, this thread got revived.
OP here. I do plan to convert Conservative and have my kids join alongside, too. There is a Conservative synagogue about 30 minutes from me, where I may enroll our kids in their Hebrew School in the future. Right now, my older is attending a school closer but they are the only young kid, so it's not as interactive as I'd like it to be. I understand Chabad's mission. I don't think I was denigrating it and apologize if anyone believes I did. |
The fact that you left the community under apparently acrimonious circumstances makes your testimony suspect, though. You have an axe to grind. |
DP. What acrimonious circumstances? She didn't mention any. Some people leave a house of worship/school/job because they looked around and realized it didn't fit their values. |
This is an objectively dumb claim. Would you say the same about someone who left the Branch Davidian community? Chabbad Lubavichers are a friendly strain of untra-Orthodox Jews, but that doesn’t change any of the core beliefs of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Folks would be silly to think it did. My biggest gripe with them is purely personal taste — they use Nusach Ari, which I find jarring when I go to their services or events because my background is Orthodox Nusach Ashkenaz. The person who is thinking of converting should be aware that their liturgy is a bit different than you’ll find in a conservative or non-Chabbad Orthodox synagogue. |
