Thank you for your kind words. 3rd grade was when my child started showing signs of problems with executive functioning. I have a younger child in a MoCo elementary, and I wonder whether this 10-page document is given to Moco teachers; I'd love to have a copy, and I think I'll ask the school principal. Such training is a lot of work for a parent, but I have seen good results in the two years that we have been following the plan. I wish you the best with it as well! |

The photocopy that my friend, the MoCo elem school principal, gave to me was from "The Pre-Referral Intervention Manual" by Stephen McCarney EdD, 1993. She copied the pages with suggestions if a student is 1) disorganized, 2) needs oral questions/directions repeated, 3) has difficulty concentrating, 4) does not follow verbal directions.
My friend also included one page of the MCPS "Delivery of Special Ed Services Elementary Model" Best Practices for 2009 for following simple directions and attention. It's mostly all practical, straight-forward things the teacher can say and do in the classroom. If you want me to snail mail a copy to you, send me an email at justneedanextraemailaddress@gmail.com |
Thank you so much for posting this information! With the details you gave, I can get copies of both the book and the MCPS document. |
\ thanks, that was very helpful. My ds isn't taking the medication during the summer. But we all hopeful that it will be a big help when school starts again. I too feel it would be an enormous disservice not to provide him with the meds he needs. |
