Seeking reputable Labrador Retriever breeder

Before you jump all over me, we are also interested in a rescue and have been looking at rescue options. With a young child however, most Lab rescue organizations are understandably uneasy about letting us adopt so we need to also consider working with a breeder to either get a puppy or a young adult.

If that's the route we take, we definitely want to work with a professional, not a backyard breeder or worse, a puppy mill.
I'd welcome your recommendations if you obtained or dog from a reputable breeder in the area. Thank you.

We're getting a puppy from Heart's Desire Labradors this month. She's a new breeder, but she is doing all the right things. I've been impressed so far.

Belquest in Mount Airy. As professional and reputable as they get. Champion English line labs bred for companionship. We have our third and fourth dogs from them now and they have all been wonderful.

We have 4 kids aged 2-9 yrs and adopted 2 puppies from Lab Rescue within the past year (not at the same time - abiut 6 months apart). You just need to get puppy approved which is fine with kids.

PP here. The puppies from Heart's Desire Labradors were sired by Spencer, a dog from Belquest

And and if you don't see puppies on the website that doesn't mean they aren't available. It may takes a few weeks or less.

We used Deep Run Retrievers in Virginia. I'd be more willing to try a rescue next time but for our first dog, I wanted a puppy that we could train. Our English Lab from Deep Run is a great family dog and we have not had any health issues.

X2 - have a chocolate from deep run. Love him like crazy. So smart and was already crate trained at 10 months. Wouldn't hesitate to go back for more. Lovely people.

Brookhaven Labs are good, but they don't have any puppies right now. You can send them an email, they may know of an older puppy with a breeder in the area.

Another vote for Deep Run Retreivers. We have an almost 3 year old yellow lab from them

There's an adult black lab at the Fairfax animal shelter right now. Dogs can go very quickly, so if it's something you might consider, move fast.

Just went to their website. What absolutely beautiful labs! Lots of letters from happy families, too! Do you happen to know what they might charge for one of the trained dogs? Thanks!

Want to add that I'm referring to the obedience trained dogs, not field trained. Thanks!
