Pete Cahall is out as Principal of Wilson

I had some complaints with him over the years, but I still think it's a huge loss for Wilson.

I don't think he helped himself where he tried to sweep under the rug some recent incidents of student-on-student robbery at Wilson. It seems that this past year he was more focused on telling his personal story than on addressing what needs to be addressed at the school.

Wow, looks really bad for DCPS that as soon as he comes out they fire him. Central office must not like their lackeys to get too uppity. Makes me even less excited to send my rising 9th grader to Wilson next year

Reading the title, I thought "that's old news, OP--that happened last year." Of course you didn't say "came out." What is the reaction to this among parents? Seems really early in the year to be deciding this.

So much for "leaving quietly." But, yes, another indication that DCPS is still a joke.

Here is my thing. He likely fired teachers, under IMPACT the same tool that he is now railig against. Turns out DCPS sucks all the way around...

Bring back Dr. Kim, who used to run Deal.

Ha! In DC, that's the kind of stunt that now gets you promoted. Cahill had stopped minding the store as much as he once did. Fresh leadership can be a good thing.

Ugh, I 've heard DCPS leadership say they don't want principals to last too long - they want people to move around. They see a principalship as a 5 or so year job. DCPS clearly doesn't want principals to become too powerful or build fiefdoms.

I disagree and think someone can be effective over a long term (and I worry they will do the same thing to the very effective principal of my child's elementary school ,who's been there about 6 years).

I hope they're telling him to move to someplace else. Which still feels like a firing, I'm sure, the way DCPS is structured.

ALso, I can always excuse a typo or two. But when you send something so high profile, please have someone else proof it! I caught three "typos" before I stopped counting.

I agree with PP 14:54-they like the churn, teachers and principals. No one is allowed to become too much of a personality, or too powerful.

I am a Wilson parent and I am disappointed to hear about this. I know people in this town will focus on the typos in the letter as an indication of his abilities as a principal - but he really, really genuinely cares about kids. In that regard, it is a real loss.

Will we end up with some unfeeling technocrat, only concerned about test scores? That would suck.

It makes me think maybe DCPS has a candidate in mind already? I hate the thought of having to go through this kind of transition. I'd like to hear DCPS's reasoning for this.

Oh no!

I wonder if it's because of the protest the students held today in honor of Eric Gardner.

My daughter sent me pictures of students lying on the floor in the atrium.

Jeff, where are you?

Cahill was not doing anything to make Wilson stronger academically.
He was nice to the students and very interested in sports but did not seem
interested in bumping Wilson to the next level intellectually.
