This is disgusting. There is no excuse for a school system to be so poorly run and show such horrible disregard for the safety of the students. I would have posted this in the other thread but this is so far beyond just one incident. Horrifying.

| Do not worry. Instead of getting better background checks and more security, they are forming more work groups. Administators sitting in an office chatting about it, while it is still probably going on. |
From the article:
It has to take a lot for a member of their own committee to come out to the press. This task force was not supposed to be public. |
| where is the thread title supported by anything in the article? |

There's a link to arrest reports. What is frightening is that these are just arrests. There are other articles on WTOP about the latest incident. |
| I am just sick to my stomach. Sick of all this bullshit at MCPS. |

WTF is going on with MCPS? No clear policy on reporting sexual abuse!!!! Really, how does a school system not have that in place? If anything the safety of the children should be the first priority.
Pineda, who remains in police custody, has been fired from the county school system. He worked for the system as a bus driver from 2000 to 2003, as a substitute teacher from 2003 to 2006 and again from March 2013 until September. Read more: http://www.wtop.com/41/3756501/Police-believe-substitute-teacher-victimized-more-students#ixzz3KzsctrJZ How the f*** does someone go from being a bus driver to a substitute teacher? I wonder how many cases have gone unreported? |
Or why has he been let go 2 other times and then somehow still gains employment into the system and works directly with kids? I wonder if there were other coverups. |
OMG!! It gets worse!! Barkley says another mistake was made at Roberto Clemente the day the student reported the accusations to a staff member during lunch. "One thing I want to acknowledge and own is that it was a misstep for this student to be sent back to class. A contributing factor for the child's return to class that day was the day's alternative schedule. This does not in any way excuse that mistake, but it does provide important background that it was an alternative schedule for that day." Read more: http://www.wtop.com/41/3745720/Principal-apologizes-for-delay-in-notifying-parents-of-sex-offense-allegations#ixzz3KzzKtJld This little girl is 12, only 12 years old! Goes up to an authority figure to report being groped by a disgusting old pervert and she is sent back to the classroom! If some child came up to me and said a man inappropriately touched her I would never send then back into an unsupervised area with the perpretator again. Does no one in MCPS have any common sense? You don't need a sexual abuse class to know that is just stupid and dangerous! I feel so bad for this little girl and all of his victims. |
| Where I come from people would be getting publically fired left and right if this kind of malfesance came to light. You get to a namby pamby liberal area and everyone is too afraid to stand up and be heard. Just like a bunch of sheep delivering your kids to the wolves, and the wolves are protected by the people who you entrust with your children. |

The only termination worthy offense in MCPS is speaking poorly of Starr. None of the principals or staff involved with any of these incidents will ever be fired and they are all convinced this is none of their responsibility.
Starr will leap into action when people send negative comments about him to his precious social media. Yes, this requires full and immediate action with a zero tolerance policy. Children being molested in MCPS schools by MCPS staff - he doesn't care unless it somehow affects his PR presence. The principals know that under Starr hiding it is the way to go. Until this man is fired, nothing will change. |
|
They should take these incidents very seriously and update their procedures on reporting and on background checks.
People should also take a deep breath and not panic about the school system going to hell when it employs over 22,000 people and has 12 people arrested over the course of 3 years. You'll recall that there are private schools around here with 1/100th of the staff numbers who have had prominent sex abuse scandals in recent years. The world is messy and employers have to do their best. |
|
If my 12yr old was molested and SENT BACK TO CLASS, I would be going to every single news outlet, naming the person who sent her back, naming the principal, DEMANDING there will be firings ASAP or I would be filing a massive civil law suit against the county. This is awful. That poor girl. WTF!!!
I usually hate sue-happy people but I truly hope this family has lawyered up!! |
Are you insane? For MCPS there has been media report after media report after media report of the same horrible situation happening over and over again with no action or accountability for the school system. Sexual assault by a school staff member on school grounds and school staff covering it up. Its been constant and the pattern isn't one you are seeing at other school systems. Your attitude is exactly the attitude of MCPS. Oh well, not my fault. Nothing that I can do and its better for me to just hide it or move the problem to another MCPS school. The most important thing is that my school and I still look good to Dr Starr. Its blatant disregard for child safety for personal gain all the way up to the superintendent. This is the same pattern that occurred in the Catholic Church. The Attorney General's office need to investigate MCPS and prosecute any staff member who failed to follow state law and report to the authorities. Starr should be fired and sued for creating culture that enables sexual assault on children. |
I have never written this on DCUM before, but I will now: Give me a fucking break. |
