Once this school opens up and hopefully MacFarland in the near future, does DCPS need another middle school? There is Jefferson and of course Deal.

It looks really great. Hopefully they can fill it up with kids interested in arts and languages. |
Thanks for sharing!
Did anyone make it to the meeting last week? I'd love to hear how it went. |
pretty building means nothing without a great principal and a great program. Anyone yet? |
Hopefully they can fill it up with kids. Period. The three feeder schools maybe have a current total of 180 kids in 6, 7, 8th grades. How will they fill it with 500-600 kids and offer robust programming? A singing room is cute but what about students to sing with? Since they've built it, will they come?
Would love to hear from ward 4 and 5 parents if this school is even a possibility for your child next year? How was their showing at Edfest? |
Is ward 4 feeding to Brookland Middle until they get their own middle school?
Has a principal been announced? |
Beautiful school. Library layout seems confusing. |
Perhaps, but this will mean making the K-8th grade campuses K-5th. |
Bunker Hill Lasalle Backus Langdon John Burroughs Noyes That's five schools that feed into the new brookland, there might be one or two more. I suppose they will eliminate the 6-8 grades in these schools. I looked at the school, but I am not sure if it will be ready for my kid. They don't know which two languages will be offered, as they want the new principal to decide. The lady at the both said they are considering Spanish, mandarin, and Arabic. The school also has a state of the art theatre and music room for the arts portion of the program. Algebra 1 and geometry will be offered for those students eligible to take the classes for HS credit. I am hoping much success for this school, so we shall see. I think the lady said they wanted to pull some of the kids from the Spanish immersion elementary DCPS schools, so that would mean they would have to offer various levels of Spanish. The school is located within two blocks of the metro, so I imagine if they offered higher levels of Spanish, many kids would come from OOB. |
Yes. That's a given. All feeder schools will be Pk3-5th next year |
Sorry. Ward 5 feeder schools. Ward 4 does not feed directly to this and ward 4 would apply OOB. |
You are correct. 5 Education campuses are reverting to Elementary Schools with the two stand alone middle school options available: Brookland middle school and McKinley middle school. https://brooklandms.wordpress.com/2014/11/04/brookland-middle-school-planning-how-did-we-get-here/ |
^^ meant to add that LaSalle is ward 4. Langley is your other ward 5 "L" school.
Future elementaries feeding into a stand alone middle school: Bunker Hill Burroughs Noyes Langley Langdon |
My bet is one of the feeder elementary schools may close. |
Langley feeds into McKinley MS. It is right next door to Mckinley. LaSalle maybe in Ward 4, but it is close enough to Brookland to feed into Brookland. Feeder schools are not separated by the wards. As Browne MS is located in Ward 5, but a Ward 6 ES feeds into Browne. |
