Were you in study hall? Why don't you read up more about the early history of the US to understand the three branches. Also, the founders clearly didn't anticipate that the enemy within might not be just one militia, but a whole political party who had already usurped one of the three branches, making appointments to the bench by presidents who were not elected with the popular vote. |

Pretty sure he was involved in the planning of said coup. That to me is even more disqualifying, though I suppose this we all got to watch. |
Whether or not J6 should be considered a coup attempt or an insurrection is up for debate. There is some gray area in that debate. We know for sure a mob of hundreds forcefully breached security at the US Capitol and our president watched it happen for several hours while ignoring pleas for help and doing nothing to assist in securing the building and the safety of many high ranking government officials inside. Emails, text message, tweets, phone records and testimony under oath by those in Trump's inner circle exposed exactly what Trump was doing and where he was from the time security was first breached at the Capitol to the time the building was secured. The partisan crowd can debate where or not this was a coup attempt but there is nothing to debate regarding Trump's inaction after a mob of hundreds forcefully breached security at the US Capitol. |
No, it’s not. They planned “an event,” let’s say, with the express purpose of stopping the certification of the election for Biden. They had plans to remove Mike Pence from the building and Grassley was all ready to go to certify Donald Trump as president. It’s not “partisan” to call it what it was: a partisan coup to overthrow the democratically elected government. |

Three and a half years out the GOP still wants to pretend it was just tourists and they had nothing to do with it. Ignore stuff like this, ignore them specifically hunting for Congress, ignore the columns of three percenters and oath keepers, ignore the guns stashed in Ballston, ignore Trump gleefully watching it on TV, ignore Flynn’s call to ignore calls for help, ignore the weeks of planning by the other Flynn, Giuliani and more, ignore the Republicans giving tours the night before, ignore the pipe bomb at the DNC… …they want us to focus on their little distractions instead of the clear and obvious coup we all watched. |
It really isn't up for debate. Trump orchestrated the whole thing in concert with the 'fake elector" scheme to try to steal the election (ie a coup) |
Oh wow, I’d forgotten how awful that day was. I’m a moderate Republican but have voted for Dems in the past, including Biden in 2020. Biden is very unappealing to us Republicans, but he should be campaigning on January 6th. I don’t think I can vote for Trump after skimming the last few pages of this thread and remembering his inaction on January 6th. So dangerous for our democracy. |
I hope you live in a swing state, PP. |
It wasn’t “inaction.” He had helped plan the coup and needed to give them maximum time to make it happen. Were it not for the actions of a few, that day would have ended worse. |
