Daycare/Preschool's rules on going outside during cold weather?

I am curious what your child's preschool or daycare's rule is about bringing the kids outside during cold weather and for what length of time? My daycare has a 32 or below rule, where they won't go outside if the temperature is at or below 32. I don't know exactly what the temperature was today, but when I picked him up his face was very red, almost wind burned. According to his daily sheet it did say they were outside. I am not really sure if I should say something, but today it just seemed too cold!?! It makes me sad if he was outside and cold even though I sent him in a warm coat, hat, gloves, etc.

My kids went outside at school today. I'm sure it was cold, but that doesn't seem to bother them like it does adults.

Outdoor time is required by DC regulations. As long as its above freezing, it is safe.

Today at 10 am it was 31 degrees (I checked around then) and by the time I took my son to the playground in the afternoon it was very sunny and around 35 or so. The sun makes a big difference - plus no wind today compared to yesterday. It's healthy for them and I'd be happy if my daycare had this policy as long as they're dressing them warmly and watching that they keep hats/gloves on etc.

Saying something isn't going to change anything. What you need to do is understand the rules and then make sure your child has the appropriate clothes for the weather. Today was fine for kids to be outside.

I wish my daycare took them outside today and every day. That is good to know about DC regs.

*Sigh* at DC's old preschool in a midwestern state, they had a 20 degree and colder rule. 32 is not that cold if they are properly dressed! And if you have the money to send your kid to preschool, you have the money to buy them appropriate clothes.

My kid goes in a hat, heavy coat, and gloves. They go outside everyday, unless it's wet out.

At our daycare, they go outside every day except when it's raining or on actual warning days--so, in summer, poor air quality/heat warning days, and in winter, those "hypothermia" warning days. The parents send the kids w the appropriate gear.

Kids should be going outside every day, especially in the colder months when flu and cold bugs are going around. However, the school should have a clear policy limiting the amount of time they spend outside when it is below freezing and stating when it is too cold to go outside at all (like severe wind chill days).

My daughter's preschool sends the kids out in all weather and I think it's great. As long as they are appropriately dressed, they will be fine.

OP here, I guess everyone failed to see the part of my post where I clearly state I sent my child in the "appropriate gear", HOWEVER when my child clearly has red checks and a chin several hours after coming home from daycare, I question the length of time he has spent outside and if their is a LIMIT to the time that they have kept the children outside. I am grateful and happy that my child goes outside every day, fresh air is healthy and good. I am not arguing that. I am not however grateful if he has been exposed to the cold weather for to long of a time!

He has sensitive skin. Put aquaphor on his face in the morning before leaving the hosue.

+1 My daughter gets chapped cheeks very easily in the winter-the aquaphor definitely helps.

Our preschool goes our rain or shine. In fact one day a week the older kids go to a nature center instead of school and spend the whole time outside 9:30-12:30 with their teachers. They did it this week when it was in the 20s-40s and will continue to do so through the winter unless it is extremely cold. Outside time is extremely important.

Agree with PPs, out aquaphor on his cheeks.
