Help I found a rat in our NEW bathroom toilet this morning! I am freaking out! It was alive and I shut the door and screamed and it disappeared. Never had this happen before! Does anyone know if rats can climb up the pipes? Have a plumber coming later. What can he do if anything? |
Basement toilet? This happened to us once years ago and has never happened again, but it was absolutely horrifying. My sympathies. No, we didn't call anyone because I don't think there's anything that can be done. Certainly we always make sure that our basement toilet seat is down so that nothing (shudder) can escape into the house. |
Was the lid down or up?
I'm wondering if he came from somewhere outside the toilet and went to the toilet to drink. Still horrifying, but less horrifying to me than the idea that he came up through the pipes. |
OMG. At least you looked before sitting down. |
This makes me want to cry. |
+1 I have heard if you do not use that toilet so much, it can happen. Horrifying! Does it help to leave the lid down? Can't it escape anyway? A lid isn't that heavy, is it? |
If you have public sewer rats can and do come up the pipes. |
OMG i didn't know its was common, hope they don't carry Ebola

Correcting my post above: I meant the toilet lid. |
Closing the lid won't help. They're strong enough to push it open. |
Yup, happened to us once on capitol hill in a basement apartment. Not sure if it came up or down.
We also had a chipmunk in a toilet once, but I am pretty sure that one fell in and drowned. |
Me as well. This is the stuff of my nightmares. |
How do they not drown if they come up through the plumbing?? |
Ack. I'm never ever going to use any toilet ever again. Bring on the Depends. |
Is this common???? eek |
